I just watched this on Netflix. Maybe it’s just because I was drinking while watching it, but … this is the most fun I’ve had watching a movie in a while.
A bunch of LARPers find themselves in trouble when one of them unwittingly reads a spell from a genuine spellbook, and summons forth a succubus.
It stars Peter Dinklage and Summer Glau (with her +3 Ass of Perfection; “+3? Thou dost underestimate my assets!”), and a bunch of other people I’ve never heard of (granted, it’s an independent film).
Best line, delivered by Dinklage: “Fuck you and the mustache you rode in on!”
Part of what I enjoyed about it was the fact that it takes place right here in my home state, judging by the Washington license plates on the vehicles. And it looks like it was actually shot here, judging by the terrain.
Much fun, especially if you’re a roleplayer. Watch it!
It’s about a dude that suddenly grows horns out of his head. Now, the people in his life feel compelled to tell him truths that one would normally take to their grave. Which makes for all kinds of interesting drama and humor.
That was some good shit. It took me back to all of the overperforming exploitation films I’ve enjoyed in the last 30 plus years. The beer and I rate it right up there with Split Second, Tank Girl, The Call Girl of Cthulhu, and Blood and Donuts. Nice job letting us know it was out there.
I thought it was a terrible movie with very little redeeming value. For a much better take on LARPers I’d recommend Role Model which was far more entertaining than it had any right to be.
Just saw this on Netflix, also. Reminded me a bit of Tucker and Dale vs Evil. I liked it, but these horror/comedy movies always suffer (in my mind) an uneveness when trying to be funny while people are dying. I keep thinking there will be a spell that ‘reverses everything’ (which I hate also) in these types of movies, but it is a delicate line to balance between comedy and innocent people dying.
Also surprised that Jimmi Simpson isn’t more recognizable.
Agreed with Odesio. Knights of Badassdom ended up being terrible.
Apparently, this was largely due to being stuck in development hell and the film company making cuts and hacking out stuff. Still, even the original director’s version couldn’t’ve been that good.
We caught it in the theater (on Valentine’s Day, no less, I love my wife!) It was an experience, and really better than I thought it would be. The local LARP group did a demo before the screening though, and it made me kind of sad. They were all earnest and foresoothly, and the film did kind of make a joke about the stuff they take very seriously.
