Knights Templar firebomb Potato Chips in Mexico, don't exist in Norway

I suspect these are two different “Knights Templar” groups, and that neither one is fodder for Dan Brown thrillers:

I bet none of them have even been to Jerusalem.

Are potato chips somehow heathen? Did the pope declare a crusade against salty snacks?

My first thought when seeing the thread title was that it was some sort of incredibly obscure mnemonic device.

“Drug Cartel Barbecues U.S.-Owned Potato Chip Company” - I wonder if the VPs at PepsiCo found that headline entertaining as entertaining as I do.

There is something totally funny about a startup cartel trying to make it’s name by firebombing a bunch of bright yellow trucks bearing smiley faces and the phrase “You can’t eat just one.”

Add to that, the fact that that plant was probably relocated down there to take advantage of lower costs… then instead, their fleet gets taken out by a start-up convinced that their trucks are spying on them…

Makes me think of that old Cheech and Chong movie.

Well I’ve always said that Sabritas were the bomb!

Well, they’re an offshoot of an existing/fading cartel: La Familia Michoacana.

They’re selling snack chips to the Mexican market. That’s why they’re made in Mexico.

Their original slogan was, “First One’s Free, Kid.”

Having the name doesnt make one a part of the organization. My daughter played on a ball team named the Dodgers. She didnt play at Chavez Ravine.

What the police here have been saying for months now is that the organization that Breivik claims to lead does not exist in any meaningful sense. He might for all they know have a couple email penpals that call themselves the Knights Templar and convince themselves they’re going to do really big exciting things someday, but his claim that there are two “sleeper cells” ready to attack in the next year and three months is simply not supported by any evidence. (On the day of the attack, he claimed that the first cell had set off the bomb in Oslo, he was the second cell, and there was a third cell somewhere which was ready to start a third attack. So he has changed this story at least once.)

Similarly, there may be one or two or ten thousand other organizations out there calling themselves the Knights Templar. They have no connection to the organization Breivik keeps talking about.

His Knights Templar is either a) an outright lie, 2) an exaggeration of the facts, or iii) a delusion. No one who isn’t inside his peculiar mind can say for sure, but the court’s psychiatric experts are supposed to figure out if it’s the last one or not.
