Psycat90, what’s the origin/symbolism of those Puerto Rican wedding dolls?

An old English/Scottish wedding tradition is for the bride to put a sixpence in her left shoe, which is supposed to ensure financial security for the married couple. My grandmother gave me a sixpence for this purpose when I got engaged.
I have no idea. Everything I found online says the doll is used to hold the capias, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen that be the case, since the doll is usually small, and depending on the number of guests, there can be a heck of a lot of capias to pass around.
Maybe I’ll give my mom and aunt a call to see what they have to say.
