Know Anybody That Went on a Talk Show?

WTF? What are the “requirements” for such a service? Is there a requirement of verification? That is one of the oddest things I have ever heard of.

My Dad was on a local radio talk show, when he ran for the State Senate.

Take a guess.

This particular service required photos. There was no way of really authenticating that the photos were of the subscriber (this was the mid-1990s). But then, there’s still nothing in 2004 stopping people from posting ‘respectable’ personals ads with phony pics.

It seems odd because people are embarrassed to talk about it. And people are embarrassed to talk about it because it seems odd. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Similar things have existed in the swinging lifestyle for a long time. I could tell more, but hesitate to hijack any longer. If anyone’s interested, I can elaborate in another thread.

Hey, I think I’ve found my “Ask the guy who…” thread…

In 97 I was on AM Philadelphia, but on an off-studio feed, being interviewed about a shooting at my university.

I once knew a kid who was featured on Oprah. He was adopted, annonymously of course, and when he was like 16 he started seeing a therapist. Turns out the therapist was his birth mother, IIRC. I think there was more twists and turns to the story than that–enough to impress Oprah at least.

I know a couple of professional atheists who have been on most of the major US talk shows debunking whacko religionists.

OK, I was a little slow on the draw on this one, but this is NOT Cafe Society type discussion… and is so moved to the appropriate forum.

This is not about talk shows, this is about people you know.

I could swear that this is where this thread started in the first place…

Two kids from my high school that I vaguely knew (I knew their names and what they looked like and where they lived) were on the Richard Bey show.

They were on it twice. With their mother, both times.

It think it was about '64 or '65 when a couple of teenage boys were interviewed by a local talk show in my hometown in upstate NY. They and several others had observed a UFO for over an hour. They mentioned one of the “several others” who happened to be my father who was quite knowledgeable about the appearance of most aircraft of the day… (Okay, I was one of the observers, too, but before I get razzed, recall that I said “UFO” (Unidentified flying object). It took the gentlemen from Project Bluebook quite a while to convince Dad they weren’t some pranksters when they called after the show aired to interview him.

Nah, I think it was in IMHO originally. Maybe we should start cussin’ and see if we can get it moved to the Pit.

My talk show moment: My former manicurist was reunited with the daughter she had given up for adoption years ago when she was fleeing her abusive ex-husband on the Montel Williams show. That’s the only person I know who’s been on one…

I was on a local cable talk show once. I work for a non-profit organization. I gave out our fax number as our toll free number to call for services. I didn’t know I had done it until I got back to the office and was told about it. :o

They don’t let me do stuff like that anymore.

A high school buddy was recently on Sharon Osbourne’s show, promoting a reality program he was on.

My favorite talk show story didn’t involve anybody I know. I was eating lunch at Hooters with some coworkers because I thought it would be funny to buy my wife a Hooters T-shirt after her hooters got big when our kid was born. Anyway . . . we got the worst service ever from our waitress. After a half-hour of not getting our chicken wings, we realized it was because our waitress was a guest on the Ricki Lake show, it was on TV during the lunch hour, and she was watching herself. The show’s topic that day was “Are they real or are they fake.”

You should have ordered the breasts.

A friend of mine was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno a few years ago. Donna Summer was the musical guest (on her “comeback” tour, maybe around 1997) and my buddy was playing sax in her band.

I think he did some other late-night shows when he was playing sax for Engelbert Humperdinck  but I’m not sure which ones.

My dad used to be in a band whose keyboard player was also the keyboard player for Cherry Poppin’ Daddies. I saw them play on The Tonight Show once, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they made more talk show appearances than that.

When I was in the 2nd grade I was one of about 30 kids in the audience on The Ramblin’ Rod Cartoon Show, which was a local show that kind of reminds me of the Krusty the Klown show from the Simpsons. My 15 minutes (or quince minutos if you will) of fame was when Rod handed me the microphone and I counted to 15 in Spanish. It was a pretty cool coincidence, actually; it was as high as I could count in Spanish, and I had only learned it a few days before the show. I was the only one in the class who could do it.

It’s worth mentioning that this was on a class field trip.

Several years ago I was driving back to Chicago from Wisconsin and turned on a talk radio program – and heard my old college roommate being interviewed. He has published a book (Everyone’s Guide to Buying a Used Car and Car Maintenance) and WGN had flown him up from Texas for the day for the interview.

When I got home there was a message from him that he was in town. I called the station, and finally got them to believe that I was a friend of Scott and gave him a message to call me. The producer also wanted a “good story” about him, so I related the time he fired his black powder pistol into our kitchen to unload it. He thought the ball would bounce around the room; instead, it went through the wall. Unfortuately they didn’t ask Scott about it on the air.
