If knowledge is power and power corrupts, then is it true that knowledge corrupts?
I don’t know.
Given the construction of your argument:
If A then B
If B then C
Then A = C
…then YES, knowledge corrupts, but your premisses are pretty dodgy you know.
What is it EXACTLY that you want from your OP? I don’t think I quite get it.
Well, knowledge corrupts in the sense that it often causes a person to reject commonly held beliefs. Such as, a person well-educated in evolutionary theory may reject Christianity’s theory of creationism, or reject religion entirely, which some people would see as corruption.
“Power” is an equivocation, and means two different things in each premise. The power that knowledge gives is intellectual, while the power that corrupts is political.
Thus, the argument is unsound.
what everyone is getting at here, i think, is basically this:
there are two different kinds of power here. if the smartest person on earth was also the most powerful (and the most powerful people on this planet are most definitely politicians), then albert einstein would have ruled the world back in his day. the power that comes from knowledge is the power of being able to make informed decisions and have deeply-rooted beliefs, as well as knowing the context of the world in which you live. your argument is nonexistent.
Noe schitt, mann.
