Kona guitars - any good?

I ask because I’m wanting to get into guitar. Anyone here know if these are any good? The pawn shop down the street has a 50 percent off sale going on right now, with these starting at 150 dollars. (75 after discount.)

Never played one, but at $75, chances are it’s a canoe paddle. No big deal, though. You can still learn lots and lots with a canoe paddle. My first guitar was a total piece of lumber, but I loved it, and I’ve been playing for nearly 20 years.

I say “price is right, baby.” Go for it, and have fun. It’s an acoustic, right?

Well, my logic was that it’s 150 before the discount, at a pawn shop. When I think pawn shop, I think underpriced wares. So their evil marketing campaign is working. I feel like I’m getting a good deal :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, it may not be that bad. Here is a limited sample of Kona guitar buyer reviews. You may be able to find more. The consensus seems to be that they’re not half damn bad for cheap import guitars, and considerably better than many. I’ll readily admit that the lower end of most guitar lines these days is quite a bit better than it was in my day (man, my little Oscar Schmidt was a piece of crap…I hear they’re better nowadays.)

If you’re learning guitar, and you want something that will make pleasant sounds and toughen up your hands while you learn, this sounds like a pretty darn good deal.
