Help! I am starting a Japanese class at the end of this month and I REALLY need a head start. Is there any place to get a/the Japanses Sesame Street or something like it?
Don’t know how much this will help…
There’s a Foreign Laguage Bookshop not too far from me. I get the impression the cater to people who read foreign languages. If you read in f.l.'s perhaps you listen to f.l.'s too. They might also have f.l. tapes/CD’s/videos. Dunno, never actually been in.
You also never know what you’ll find in the Yellow Pages. Well, you know you’ll find plumbers and pizza places, but there might be f.l. resources too. Also, dunno, the Yellow Pages here is for plumbers and pizza places with a whole bunch more pages to root through to get there.
Also try your friendly local library. They have scads of stuff. Some of it in other ways of talking. (I got tired of “foreign languages” and “f.l.”)

Go to a video store with an Anime/Japanamation section. Get a subtitled animated show, preferably a comedy. You will be able to follow the plot & learn the words fairly easily.
Baka means “fool” or “Idiot!” for example.
