Kosher Hot Dogs

Cecil, with all your vast knowledge, could you please answer a question for me. I have been married to a Jewish man for the past 12 years, and have yet to find the reason behind there being 7 kosher hot dogs to a package, when there are almost always 8 hotdog buns to a package. Please help me end this dilemma!

I don’t have a good answer for this, except to say that the number of hot dogs in a package are not consistent. I have seen with seven, with eight, and even with nine…in packages from the same company.

Why the packaging of Kosher hot dogs is so inconsistent is a fair question, but I just wanted to clarify: it’s not always seven.

It’s Kabbalistic.

Seven is an extremely mystical number in most spiritual circles, and especially in the Kabbalah.

Hot dogs, of course, are phallic, and when taken in conjunction with the holiness of 7 the consumption is primarily for fertility purposes.

I hope you want babies.

So why do they have all those nitrates in them?

DAMN my Archive Ignorance. Cecil covered this one in the FIRST “The Straight Dope” book. I just don’t know how to link anyone to that area <<sob>>.
