If you’re watching sodium at all, those noodles are right out. Holy God, that’s a lot of sodium.
Or Annie’s, if you can get it near you. Look for the purple box with the bunny.
That Annie’s stuff is good (it tastes like real food) but it’s crazy expensive.
EVERYTHING in moderation, including moderation.
White Cheddar and Spirals (maybe with a dash of BBQ sauce) were my favourites.
Have you tried President’s Choice white cheddar mac ‘n’ cheese? It used to be as good as the “real thing”, IMO; maybe they haven’t changed their recipe.
This is the one TRUE mac ‘n’ cheese. I haven’t had it in years but I remember it blowing KD out of the water.
I actually like KD better than Annie’s. I think I’m the only one. I find Annie’s has a powdery, chemical taste.
And I agree about the whole mac&cheese is different from KD thing. They’re not interchangeable. I find it kind of odd to get snobby about the obvious superiority of macaroni and cheese. It’s not like from scratch mac and cheese is gourmet or much more nutritious than KD anyways.
Thanks to all you dudes, we had Kraft mac and cheese for supper last night - with extra veggies, cream cheese, and sour cream. Mm mm good.
I agree with you. I sometimes make it from scratch, and also from teh box, depending on circumstances. Also, sometimes you only have a buck to spend rather than buying a large block of cheese plus everything else. I understand you get a lot more from scratch, but still, if you only have a dollar you only have a dollar.
Amen. Marketing is everything. I got my three-year old to eat broccoli by calling it monkey trees and carrots by exclaiming that he’s turned orange when he eats them.
As for mac & cheese… Yeah, totally different from homemade macaroni and cheese. I love making the homemade stuff, but I’ve got a half hour after I get home to make something to feed my preschooler and nurse my baby (apparently it’s dinnertime for everyone) while running herd on said preschooler until his dad can get home and hold the baby for me long enough to finish food prep. It’d be nice if dinnertime were so flexible you could just put it off until dinner is ready, but kids have to sleep, and everything is planned backward from that.
My favorite homemade recipe is the classic Joy of Cooking baked macaroni and cheese. Delicious! I’ve still got a frozen pan of that stuff in the freezer. I made it before I had the baby. Hmmm… Don’t have anything in mind for dinner yet tonight.
