About 20 years ago, I was very interested in homemade brews. I made homemade meads and a raisin wine.
Anyway, I has mixed success. So I graduated onto making my own liqueurs. And I had much more success.
I put some jalapeño peppers in Vodka, to make my own pepper liqueur (truly delicious–especially in a Bloody Mary, I recall). I got some Wormwood, to make my own Absinthe (quite unnecessary now, since it is legal to sell in the USA at the present time). And I made Krupnik.
Krupnik is Polish fire Vodka. It is not called ‘fire’, because it is spicy. It is literally made over the fire, or used to be.
For my own part, I just used the microwave. (You have to keep it under the boiling point, or the ethyl alcohol will evaporate. Microwaves are perfect, for this, I discovered.)
I steeped some spices in it, as per the recipe. And I added honey, also per the recipe. The honey was from a dollar store. But it was good-quality clover honey, I remember. The end product was this amber, viscuous liquid, that tasted quite good, I recall.
Anyway, I always carefully date food items involving alcohol, that I make. And as the title already told you, I apparently have some dating back to November 4th 2001.
Do you think it is safe to drink?
I have been mulling over the very idea in my head for some time now.
I used 100 proof Vodka in it, and the bottle has been sealed this whole time. And as I said, it also has a lot of honey in it, still giving it a healthy amber glow.
FWIW, when my father died in early 2011, my family helped me clean out my house. They came across the Krupnik, and they thought it was safe to drink. But as I said, I am very uncertain about it still.
Again, what do the rest of you think? I am sure it is still delicious (still looks good, as I said). But is it ’safe’?
Thank you all in advance for your helpful posts:).
