As a new SD’er I usually go straight to the GQ to look around. This morning, someone got blasted there, and they told him to go to the Pit.
I thought the pit would be profanity, sexuality etc., all the gutter stuff.
I was surprised at your responses to some of the questions posted here. You guys are really kind hearted – very nice to see.
I guess I misjudged what the “pit” was all about. Sounds like many of you are an internet “family”, and for the new ones you welcomed with kind words and thoughts. I was impressed with the advice you gave to the few who wrote because something really terrible has happened in their lives.
Don’t underestimate us. We can be a real bunch of bleep when the need arises. Since you posted a nice post, in the Pit of all places, I won’t use the bad words.
I’m often embarrassed to admit it, but the Pit is my favorite forum. Apart from the general “i had a goat-felching shitty day” stuff, some of the best rants I’ve ever heard come out of the Pit. I’m a sucker for good rants.
And some of them are just freaking hilarious. i.e., any jarbaby pit thread.
I would say give respect get respect is a good template to use. But beware, because if you so much as put that foot anywhere near your mouth, you WILL be lambasted by the masses.
you know, i’ve noticed that the lower the target of the board in general, the higher it hits on average. one of those wierd things, you know?
example; the Exploitation Now keenspot message board.
the board itself is for a T&A comic, but in amongst the “share your porn!” threads i’ve seen things on that would seem highbrow in GD; discussions on the physics of sabot cannon rounds, 18[sup]th[/sup] century battle tactics, philosophical discussions; you name it, it’s been there at least once.
there’s tons of people on there you think are just perverts at first, but turn out to be some pretty smart cookies, generally who are a lot smarter than you first gave them credit for. pretty neat, really.
saepiroth: The first message board I ever participated in was like that. It was an EverQuest fan site. I started reading there for hints on the game, ended up staying for discussions of energy dispersal rates of orbital lasers through a planetary atmosphere.
