Where one is lying on their back, on the ground, then kicks suddenly into the air, and voila! Standing on two feet! How do yopu do this, and what is it called? I think its just the coolest.
It’s a kip up. I couldn’t tell you how to do it.
Yep, Kip-up.
As to how? You practive really really hard. It’s that (not at all)easy.
There is a trick or groove to it, but once you get it then it is really quite easy and effortless to do. There are also multiple ways of doing it, some easier than others.
The most common mistake/assumption that people make, is that they try to do everything by pushing off from the ground with your hands and arms. The hands are really only placed on the ground for stability, and to give a little extra oomph.
The push off is accomplished by piking your legs over your head (like a diver) while your shoulders are braced on the ground. Then un-pike while curling your back and shoulders backward, and your body naturally springs up and rotates. Once you get decent, you can kip up with your arms folded against your chest, using shoulders only against the ground to push off.
It is a move that is of dubious usefulness in reality (there are far more efficient and quick ways of gaining your feet), but it does look cool.
Here’s how I do it, though as others have said it isn’t a very efficient way of getting up. You’re usually better off standing the old fashion way and not tiring yourself out. I digress,
1.Start lying face up on the ground
2. Place hands palms down on either side of your head fingers pointing down.
3. Pulls your legs in and roll your weight onto your palms.
4. Push off the ground with your palms while kicking your legs forward and downward. Your legs are to get you up and in the air, the arms are to tilt you 90 degrees to face forward.
5. If done right you’ll be upright crouching on the balls of your feet. If done wrong, you’ll probably still be on the floor.
It takes some practice, especially to do on hard surfaces. But you’ll get the hang of it eventually. It really isn’t functional besides looking cool, but I guess thats the point.
