Kurt Warner Goes to Church Here

Don’t know if this thread is more suited to here or to IMHO, but it’s gotta go somewhere, and I’m more of a GQ person anyway, so here goes…

Some time ago there was an article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch about what a devout Christian Kurt Warner is, yada yada yada. The article then went on to give the name and address of the church his family attends ! Which got me to wondering: does anybody have any idea what it’s like going to church where one of the parishoners is a celebrity? For example, Tarrytown United Methodist Church in Austin (church home of Dubya). Do they have armed guards at the door? How do the doorkeepers determine who is there for spiritual enlightenment and who is there to be an autograph-seeker?

Anybody have any experience with this? The most prominent celebrities in my church are a bunch of 40-something guys who had a Christian rock band when I was in high school and a doctor who once had an article published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Er, who?

Kurt Warner is quarterback for the St. Louis Rams; if that’s what you mean.

The band was Mirror Image, and the doctor is Dr. Paul Smelter; if that’s what you mean.

Well, for some reason I’m flashing on the Jimmy Carter years, when they made a Big Deal out of the fact that they weren’t making a Big Deal out of the fact that he needed to go to church every Sunday morning. But I’m sorry, I don’t remember any of the specifics, only that we weren’t supposed to watch him go to church because that would violate his privacy or something. Hard to imagine that concept flying today, huh.

(And I thought Kurt Warner was the Nazi guy from Austria, and I came in here to find out why he went to church in Springfield…)

Klaus Barbie.

im sorry i cant help it

This is really more of an IMHO thing. I’ll shoot it over there for you.

Joerg Haider, a politician from Carpathia. The current scandal is that the Pope is meeting with him today, and left-wing groups, Jewish organizations, and the Israeli government are protesting.

Read about the violent protests at cnn.com’s article.

But as a St Louis Rams hater, I’ll willingly go along with the argument that Kurt Warner is a Nazi …

Carpathia? Pretend I said Carinthia. Damnit. Preview then submit, preview then submit, and also keep track of obscure Austrian provinces.

I used to go to church with Evander Holyfield.(I’ve since changed churches). This may not be the type of celebrity you’re looking for, but it’s the closest I can come.

It really wasn’t such a big deal. I mean, I wasn’t there to celebrity watch, he wasn’t the reason I went to that church to start with, so I really paid no attention.

Now after I left, there was a big to do about whether the pastor could be forced to testify in his divorce case. It was all over the news, and such, but I wasn’t worried by that time.
