A large North American ape; Homer Simpson.
It’s a word Bart made up to cheat at Scrabble.
Scrabble, yes, but as played on The Simpsons .
Scrabble, yes, but it was The Simpsons who were playing it, and Bart who played the word. I can’t quite remember what he said it meant, but it was something to do with North American apes and an obvious jibe at Homer.
I’m sure someone else’ll be along soon to fill in the blanks with the appropriate quote.
It’s from an early episode of The Simpsons. They’re playing Scrabble, and Bart puts down “KWYJIBO” as a word. Homer challenges, and Bart says it’s a big, ugly North American ape (Homer) with a bald head (and Marge adds, “and a short temper”)
I might not have the quotes exactly right, please correct me if I’m wrong.
I guess we’re all agreed on the show and the circumstances, then? Lordy, never have I seen such simulposts!

FYI, Yahoo games has this series of letters advertising their “Literati” game.
From the Bart and Wagnall’s:
kwyjibo (kwi-jee-bo): A fat balding North American ape with no chin.
“On a triple word score, plus 50 points for using all my letters. Game Over. I’m outta here”
It was also key (as one of the most famous fake Scrabble words) to helping dedicated puzzle-solvers figure out this MIT Mystery Hunt puzzle. The solution notes the surprising volume of sitcoms that have used the “non-existant Scrabble word” gag…
If I’m not mistaken, it was in the very first regular Simpsons episode (aside from that Christmas special and the Tracey Ullman Show shorts). I remember watching it my freshman year in college.
Then again, a lot of that year is pretty blurry, so I could be totally wrong.
