Just over a month ago. We’ll have to do sushi one of these days.
Sunspace, I think the schedule I saw showed it being 35 minutes. It must be quite the scenic route.

Good thing I work from home now.
I moved to San Diego 25 years ago to get away from this crap. And yet, by quirks of fate, I have to go back this weekend, and Mulholland Drive is where I’m going. To avoid Carmageddon, we’re going to have to drive up Friday and stay on until Monday … and just hope for the best.
405 is often bumper-to-bumper through the Sepulveda Pass? That’s an understatement. Like things often explode in Michael Bay movies or the Pope is often Catholic.
When I heard them talking about Karmageddon, I thought that it was the end of the world for Buddhists.
I wonder how much of that is pulling away from the terminal, taxiing, etc…
I fly out Friday early AM, no worries there, but I return Sun evening. I usually take the flyaway from the valley, but I have no idea what their plans are as they have not updated their website. I may be walking home.
Yeah, I don’t get how Jetblue’s going to be making any money for 4 a person. There's gotta be some catch, like chairs are extra or something

You realize, i assume, that they didn’t do this to make money on those flights. They did it to get publicity and, judging by this thread and by the number of media stories talking about it, they were pretty successful.
I’ll bet the media coverage alone is worth far more than the money they will lose on the flights.
I’m not in the area, and the only Carmageddon I’m familiar with is this one.
LAPD: “Sorry, no parties on freeway.”
I’m not expecting to notice much of an effect down in Long Beach. I live less than a mile from the 405, but well south of the segment that’s going to be closed. I’m driving to Anaheim for a wedding on Saturday, but again - that’s far enough away from the mess that I’m not anticipating problems. Famous last words?
I read in the paper that the Getty is closing completely this weekend, having realized that they are apparently impossible to reach except via the 405. Not just difficult - impossible.
I’m curious about my drive home this evening - I work in Northridge. I do not normally take the 405 home, owing to its usual heavy traffic, so I plan to take my normal eastward swing via the 5 or (if it’s heavy) the 210/2 and see how it goes. However, traffic this morning was a little lighter than normal. Maybe I’ll be able to just zip down the 405 directly through the segment that’ll be closing a few hours later…
Are you packing three days’ worth of food and water, just in case? ![]()
I tried to convince TPTB that we should either shut down the office at 4:05pm or only need to work 4.05 hours today before going home.
They were not amused.
sigh
Yes. You couldn’t walk to the Getty if you wanted to, even in normal times–except by infiltration through private property in the Brentwood hills.
Last time I was there, those on foot needed to take a free Getty shuttle from Westwood.
And the award for Most Ironic Username and Post Combination in This Thread goes to…drum roll…
T-minus 2.5 hours until the Carmageddon…
Actually, you can walk up to the parking lot, but then they have a little train that takes you from there to the museum. The shuttle from Westwood goes up Sepulveda, which probably will be jammed up all weekend. And that’s probably why they’re closing–it’s not going to be practical.
You can even walk up to the museum from the parking lot if you want. We did it once when the train was really crowded. (Actually, my son and I walked while my wife and daughter waited for the train. They passed us just before we reached the top, so my son sprinted the last 100 yard so he could be standing smugly outside their tram car as the door opened.)
Fox 11 is having a special news program on the 405 shutdown tonite and tomorrow. Also channel 5 KTLA is gonna give hourly updates on this tragedy.
I will be in my front lawn running around in circles screaming that the sky is falling. Even though I live in Long Beach a long distance from the closure and have no need to go to the north county. But still I know it will be terrible and we will all DIE, eek!
