LA Dopers: What is the significance of the Ralph Macchio graffiti posters?

Driving along the 101 yesterday, we saw quite a bit of tag-type graffiti. Mixed among it was what is becoming an increasingly familiar sight: posters of Ralph Macchio’s face (AKA the Karate Kid), wearing his karate bandana thingy. This poster is also on one of the supports for the 10/57/210 interchange–someone crawled off the road onto a support some 100+ feet up, reached over the side, and glued Ralph’s face for all to see. Eep…no wonder no one’s bothered to take it down.

I’m assuming this is somehow gang related. Anyone know the who/what/when/where/why? I mean…what are they, the Karate Kid gang??

I haven’t seen this (don’t live in SF anymore), but could it possibly be the newest in the series of “Andre the Giant has a Posse” and Tattoo from Fantasy Island stencils and posters? If so , it’s just meant to be funny entertaining pseudo-hipster public art.

Far from all graffiti is gang-related, btw.

One post threadkiller. Do I get a medal?

Nothing beats the Gary Coleman poster dockside in Ensenada.
