FYI, A feminist rebuttal.
Hey! I’m not fat.
That’s a very good rebuttal, I think it hits the weak points of the Cracked article very well. It’s not really fair to say ‘men are like this because they’re horny’ when the media is CONSTANTLY celebrating their horniness and ignoring women’s.
The bit that you quoted is good food for thought. To be fair, I wouldn’t take it to mean ‘men are evil oppressors and we must fight them’ - to be perfectly honest, I think women would abuse power in the same way if they had it. But thousands of years of society have been based on women being physically smaller and burdened with childbearing, and we’re all beings who generally take power when we can, so here we are.
Did you see the word “fat” in the bit you quoted? :dubious:
Interesting. I have been trying to reverse genders in Wong’s article, just like you did in the outline above, to get a feel for how truthful and pervasive it is. Do I really think about being decorative that much? Sad answer: hell yes. *) Then it is fair to assume the men in my life may look at me as decorative in much the same way.
Do I want power over my husband? Again, hell yes. Benign power, but still. So then it is understandable that some or many men might feel the same way. And they are no more scary freaks then I am.
*) And not *just *decorative, but capable, nice etc blabla, and also decorative.
Two words. Sex. Robots. If we had lifelike sex robots, the value of having a woman around would drop immensely for a lot of men. Men don’t want to control women; they just want to be able to get laid without a lot of effort. It really is just because men are horny.
I don’t think that’s true. According to that theory, people who have relatively unimpeded access to sex should be more inclined to treat women as equals, and are unlikely to be controlling or abusive.
Reality doesn’t bear that out- plenty of celebrities, millionaires, monarchs and the like can have sex with any number of attractive women without much effort, but they still do stuff like beat up their wives, keep their wives in purdah, and otherwise control women.
Likewise, in theory societies with easy, cheap and relatively unstigmitized prostitution, such as China, where in many areas visiting a prostitute is an ordinary way to conclude a business meeting, should be paradises of equality. Reality doesn’t bear that out- in fact, it seems to be quite the opposite.
Having relatively unlimited access to sex does not temper misogyny at all.
This building in Brooklyn is pretty phallic. Occasionally it vents steam out of the top.

There’s at least five ways everybody is trained to hate robots, but do we get an article in Cracked? Hell, no.

My mind slipped “fat” in front of “sweaty” in my mind.
