Well, not within a cycle, no.
I have downgraded from super to regular due to an increased dryness/sensitivity issue.

Another yes. As to buying multiple boxes, it’s not like they’re going to cost less in the future and by family history I’ve got at least 7 years to go. I just keep them in the garage with the 18 rolls of paper towels and the 50 pound bags of rice from Costco.
Back when I used tampons, I had three different sizes–Ultra, Super, and Regular, for heavy, medium, and light days. This is why I no longer use tampons. Anyone want some extras?
Maybe some people are just more consistent than others in this area. I know exactly how mine goes. I’m not a psychic, and I don’t keep a chart. It’s just really consistent and really obvious to me.
It used to be very heavy for the first day or so, then taper off evenly. Since I got an IUD a year and a half ago, it starts light for a couple of days, then heavy for a couple of days, then very light. Every time.
Yeah, me too.
I have an IUD as well, and that’s exactly how mine are. I can’t remember what they were like before, though, only that they hurt a lot less after I had my daughter.
I do vary… generally regular for most days, and super for a couple days in the middle… and very rarely I use pads but only because the super plus doesn’t even seem to last longer than an hour or so. Thankfully I don’t get those often, and only when I’m not on the pill.
Sadly, it doesn’t work for everyone–there are a lot of posters in the Livejournal menstrual_cups community who hate them, and use different brands of cups. So, just like every other damn thing a woman puts on or in her body, you might have to try different ones.
I use the same–regular. I just change it more on the first day because I tend to be heavier…otherwise, regular does fine. The one time I accidentally got a superplus, was much too big for me. I’ve never even seen “light” which I suppose I might use if I were still bleeding enough but couldn’t use a pad (i…e, pool.)
I guess I should add to the OP…
My normal size is SuperPlus. With a pad for days one-four. I was quite concerned about the usefulness of a “Super” but so far so good (just changing more frequently.
And, during a strange, horrid, few months several years ago, I had to wear two tampons at once for at least the first day. Not side by side, but stacked.
Thank god it was only temporary…
I do buy different sizes…regular, super and superplus. I start out slow and use regular, then super after day 2 and superplus at night in addition to a pad—who wants to awake in a puddle of blood?
I’m another o.b. multipack fan. My period is consistently light for the first tampon then heavy for a day and a half, regular up until just before then end, and light at the very end. I usually end up with some extra lights and heavies after a couple of boxes, so I will occasionally pick up a box of regulars as needed.
I used to not vary them. For years and years my monthly habit was to use Tampax supers. But they changed the designs a couple of months ago, and I have been leaking like crazy since. I don’t think that moving to a higher absorbency of Tampax is going to do anything though. The little skirt they put at the juncture of tampon and string seems to be at odds with my form. It seems to prevent me from sealing the tampon in place, for lack of a better description, and instead it provides a little vehicle for seepage. Drives me CRAZY.
So now at age 33, I find myself on a quest for a new brand and possibly a new range of absorbencies. Prior to the design change, I have had more and more often mid-month spotting.
 I’m nearly 40 years old and I didn’t know that this was possible, let alone someone could do so voluntarily!
Though, upon reflection, I guess a normally-endowed male member is of greater girth, length and volume than two tampons, but it just doesn’t grok the same way to me. I have always had a vague fear that I would forget to remove a tampon before putting another one in, and Horrible Things Would Happen. Shows what I know.
This general ignorance is probably why I got all gung-ho and bought a divacup, and now haven’t the foggiest clue of how to get that thing up in there (I know there are lots of threads - I’ll get to them eventually).
So for the time being it’s Natracare organic supers (with applicator) for me. One at a time, thanks!
ETA: …about 2 or 3 per cycle. Having been on the pill most of my adult life I usually use a couple on my heaviest day, but that’s pretty much it. A gladrag or two get me through the other couple days. Just lucky, I guess.
I’ve never understood the fascination with the DivaCup. Let me put it this way:
When you scrape your knee, and its bleeding profusely – which do you want, a bowl over the wound, or a band-aid?
Damn, I came on here to pimp the Divacup. Well, I think it’s the best thing in the world YMMV. Thank god I will never have to worry about this stuff again!
What is grosser…a puddle of freshly spilled blood or a pile of old dirty band aids?
Menstruation is hardly analogous to a knee scrape.
I’d prefer the band aids because you can just toss them out without washing out the big fishbowl of blood.
