Alcaraz, whose work I generally enjoy, and whose politics I generally share, has called for a boycott of SNL over Trump’s hosting. On NPR, he mentioned that his new cartoon series is going to be on the Fox Network.
Murdoch’s network.
Is it just me, or does this seem inconsistent?
Pardon, please, the typo of his last name in the title. Unintentional.
Not really inconsistent. Murdoch hasn’t been talking trash about Hispanics lately. Bottom line though: Murdoch is important to him, Trump isn’t.
I find that it’s very helpful, when considering whether something is hypocrisy, to come up with a sentence that describes the belief that the holder is acting against, of the form “Person X believes Y, but is also doing Z”. Kind of like when you’re solving an SAT analogy question, where you make a sentence and slot in the parts of the analogy.
Here’s my best attempt: Alcarez believes that we should not support someone he disagrees with politically by watching a television show, but is himself trying to get people to watch his own television show (which is broadcast by someone he presumably also disagrees with politically).
Doesn’t seem hypocritical to me. For one, there’s a big difference between personally inviting someone to be on a show (a tacit endorsement?) and simply doing business with a company owned by someone.
If Alcarez responded to an attempted boycott of the Fox Network (and by extension his own show) by saying “My show is great, and you shouldn’t let the political opinions of the network dictate which shows you watch”, well, then that’d be hypocritical.
