This isn’t a particularly surprising realization. If I think about it I can probably name dozens of instances of my own hypocricy but the one that struck me last night came as I was watching “Repulsion” with the commentary playing. I’ve really enjoyed every Polanski film I’ve seen and listening to his comments I found him to be quite interesting and self deprecating, even likable. I also like many of the actors who are Scientologists (acting wise that is)and wouldn’t think of boycotting their movies. This comes up fairly often in celebrity threads and I’d never understood it. However, when the football conversation turns to speculation of what will happen to Michael Vick, my first thought is that I hope he never plays for the Bucs (purely hypothetical- would never happen) because I sure as hell would stop watching. Folks, that’s some double sided mouth talking right there.
So, tell me about your own blatant hypocricy. It doesn’t have to be celebrity related. Any example of your willful self deception will do
:smack: :smack::smack: Triple smacks for me; Mods, fix spelling in thread title, pretty please.
 for Really Not All That Bright for entertaining such a thought. I *really * don’t think that’s gonna happen, but that’s a discussion for the Game Room.
I don’t think watching Scientologist-produced/acted films makes you a hypocrite, anyway; AFAIK, none of the prominent Hollywood Scientologists are part of the Scientologist leadership. They’re just victims too.
It’s not hypocrisy to recognize that what Vick did is less forgivable than falling for a self-indulgent fake religion. It might be hypocrisy if you stopped watching the team that signed him but returned to watching them if/when he started winning games (God forbid!).
In the meantime, it’s also not hypocritical to hate on Vick when other dogfighters haven’t made the news, as long as you hate on them when you hear about them too.
My point is that all this time I’ve questioned people saying they would boycott this or that due to the personal life of the person behind / involved with it and here I’m doing the same thing. I haven’t changed my mind but I will admit the hypocracy!
Oh, I’ve got one: I really hate that the Huffington Post highlights stories about female celebrities posing nude, but I always click through to the stories. And then I’m annoyed if the bits on display aren’t sufficiently naughty.
I am male, about 30lbs overweight and would never date a woman who was more than 5lbs overweight. I suppose it helps that I have an attractive face and am generally considered witty and funny.
