Lamar Odom found unconscious in a Nevada Brothel

Over the weekend Odom was rushed to the hospital in Vegas after passing out while apparently partying with hookers for days. I’ve never seen a description such as the one above. It reminds me of this scene from the Simpsons.

Who would have guessed that the Kardashian was the stable, normal one in their marriage?

As a former Laker, I hope he recovers. His career’s probably done for though. He was one of the highlights in those championship teams. His length and quickness and versatility made him hard to guard for his position. I still think he’s a good guy, but he’s got a lot of problems. His family history doesn’t help, and the deaths of his friends doesn’t either. Those were probably the last straw. I just wish more guys are able to just retire into a quiet life instead of trying to maintain the partying lifestyle of their playing days.

Jesse Jackson says that Odom is on life support.

Well, at least he won’t need any embalming…

His basketball career was pretty much already over. He played in Spain last year before finishing the last few games of the NBA season with the Knicks.

Hope he can pull through, but he was obviously in a bad place.

He was never any good taking it to the hole

What’s herbal viagra?

Even if she is not the fattest anymore, she is definitely the ugliest. Can’t they all die in a plane crash so after twelve months in the news we never have to hear about them again?

Just Joking…

Well half-joking.

This seems more appropriate in The Game Room and I’ve merged it with another thread that was here.

As a human being, I hope he recovers.

It gets sadder his Dad, who has enormous addiction issues, was in to see him, and apparently the Kardashians are the closest thing to a family that he’s ever had. How seriously sad is that?

It’s what she calls herself- ‘the fat, funny one’- and it’s been a huge part of the show for years. She’s worked extremely hard the last 18 months or so to lose a lot of weight, and the difference is remarkable. She recently had a cover shoot where she said she never thought she could be anything but big, even though she knew she wasn’t healthy. Run a google image search- she was significantly larger than her sisters. It would be ridiculous to not acknowledge it.

Incidentally, they’re still married (he’d been dragging his feet about moving the divorce forward), so she is currently making all the medical decisions. Her and her mom are at the hospital.

Worse than turning the story into ‘wasn’t he married to the fat girl’ is the fact that the police are talking about charging him if they find cocaine in the brothel room he was staying in. The man is in a coma and might not make it, and they’re pulling blood samples and getting a search warrant- all while acknowledging it might have been a suicide attempt. THAT’s insensitive.

There are various types; this is what he was taking:

HUH? really?!!!

what is appropriate about putting a tragic case in the game room? taking odds on his survival?

yeah he was a player, but he’s in a fight for his life, he’s not in a game at the moment. wtf?:dubious:

This looks really, really bad… would that he pulls through.

bobkitty as I understand it the legal-brothel enforcement in Nevada tends to be quite uptight about publicity of illegal substances flowing in the place of business. In any case best outcome would be for him to be able to make it to have a day in court over it.

Yes, this is something that is the subject of repeated busts: alleged “herbal supplements” that actually DO contain, besides whatever wonder herb, what in the US are prescription ED products like sildenafil. Mostly Chinese bootleg products, with the famous Chinese quality control practices, repacked and relabeled at the distributor level after importing. Imagine if your chamomille tea were spiked with Ativan or Dilantin or your energy drink with Dexedrine or Ritalin, at unpredictable doses.

A 20+ year old regulation makes things sold as “supplements”<*> subject to a much looser standard than things marketed as actual medication. And on top of that of course add how people have this quaint misguided notion that if something’s “natural herbal” it can’t be that harmful. Right. Ask Socrates. So to party I’ll take cocaine to get all wired and booze to get loose but then I’ll take a pile of “herbal supplement” to nourish and strengthen my own natural virility.

<*and yes, you’d figure if something is being sold for popping boners, or for relieving an enlarged prostate, someone at the FDA would say wait that’s no bloody supplement, it’s a drug. But (a) it’s based on self reporting and as long as you disclaim that you are not advertising Malady–>Remedy you’re mostly cool and (b) we don’t have 400,000 inspectors to go after every truckload of every damn concoction in the market.>

We have threads about the illness or death of sports figures or celebrities all the time, and they go in either the Game Room or Cafe Society, depending on the field. The other thread was in Cafe Society. Where it goes depends on whether he’s regarded more as a sports figure or a TV personality.

I guess she’ll have to decide when to pull the plug. A tough decision at any time.

What a sad waste of a gifted life.

That’s how you save the life of an addict. The police are doing what is necessary to be able to keep him in custody and force him into treatment if he wakes up. There is every chance that he will wake up in severe withdrawals and try to go get more drugs.

It’s a sad statement, but look at his former* brother in law** Scott Disick. He’s on his way into rehab for the umpteenth time, with several drug-related ER visits under his belt. He will probably die unless someone can force him into a full six-month rehab. Perhaps Lamar will scare him into it.

  • Are either of them divorced yet?
**Or whatever the kids are calling it these days.

Seems very unlikely he’ll wake up if this is accurate. I guess there’s always a chance he’ll beat the odds.

Forcing someone into rehab isn’t terribly effective. Generally, unless an addict really makes a personal decision to change they’re going to stay active addicts for life.

It’s too bad about Odom, and I wouldn’t wish what Khloe (or however she spells it) is going through on anyone. Having to go through all this under the public eye can’t possibly make it any easier.

Agreed, that has touched me close. Even when they willingly attend, it’s harder than they themselves expect.
