In the Boyne episode of his Battlefield Britain series, Peter Snow sums up the show, saying something like, “The echoes of those twelve hours in the summer of 1690 still resound as loudly as the lamb baked drum.”
At least that’s what it sounds like he said. If so, what the heck is a lamb baked drum? If not, what did he really say?
He probeably said “Lambeg Drum”. It’s a big drum that Unionists use on Twelth Day celebrations.
Here’s a Twelth Parade with Lambeg Drums, and you can see some of the marchers using them.
Here’s another, with more Lambeg Drums than you can shake a stick at, if you had a mind to go stick shaking. It’s a loud instrument.
Excellent. Thank you!
I knew it had to be something like that, but I couldn’t figure out a spelling that brought it up in Google.:smack:
Ignorance fought!
Care for a dish of Lamb, Baked, or Baked Drum?
