Warnings.
Explain to me, then why this thread is open when it is no more pointed than the one that was closed. It’s obvious that you all don’t think that style of humor is dumb or terrible because you’re all using it here. Leaving this thread open but closing the initial thread is either hypocrisy or hipsterism.
Complaint about jackbooted mod warnings
It’s neither: if I’d closed this one (and I almost did), someone would have started a new one to ask why this one and the other one were closed. Instead we left this one open. If you want us to explain how we handle stupid threads for the umpteenth time, we can do that, but I think you’ve heard it already. I’m pretty confident Inigo Montoya has also heard those explanations since he’s started plenty of these threads. There’s some stuff that is a little too dumb for this board. You can put it on your blog or Facebook or somewhere else if you like, but this isn’t the place for it. There is a very, very low minimum standard and this doesn’t meet it. Nobody said threads like this are harmful or dangerous, but even compared to a lot of other SDMB threads, they’re pointless.
So instead of one pointless thread for a total of +1 threads, we have one locked thread and one equally pointless thread for a total of +2 threads in the interests of saving us a pointless thread. Great math skills you got, there.
Had you left the other thread open, no one would have started any other threads about it and your odd desire to have no more than the minimum possible number of threads would have been satisfied.
This thread has a point: explaining the rules on threads like the one Inigo Montoya started.
Are you attempting to raise some kind of issue, or are you trying to meet some kind of quota for strawman arguments and weak sarcasm? Let’s cut to the chase: do you have a question about how we handle this stuff? Is there something you want to see here?
Post telling all the big fat fucking pussies to take it the God-Damn pit.
We have one of those you know - slur/of/your/choice!
I would like to see you not close pointless threads if you’re going to let equally pointless threads stay open. If the thread you closed was too stupid to live, then you should have closed this one as well. I see no information in this thread that was not already conveyed in your locking post in the first thread.
In an ideal world, I’d like to see you letting the community decide what threads are too stupid to live but that would be a faint hope indeed.
See post 47
Pointing out the irony of closing a thread too stupid to live in a forum about US presidential elections.
It’s not equally pointless: sooner or later someone was going to actually ask the implied question about why we close stupid threads like the other one. I don’t think there is very much new to say about this issue because we’ve discussed it so many times, but people can ask. This is part joke thread and part discussion of the rules. So now we can put aside the sarcastic thanks and the concerns about hypocrisy and hipsterism.
It’s been all joke thread and there’s been no rules discussion. Discussion implies that both sides are willing to listen to the other. If your only plan was to reiterate that the thread was too pointless, then that’s not much of a discussion.
I think I know exactly where that Inner Stick is located.
I burn his dog, and throw rocks down there.
A stupid thread in Elections gets closed, as it should have been, and a rantless BBQ thread gets moved to ATMB.
Perhaps a better move would have been to close the BBQ thread, suggesting an ATMB thread be opened if IM really wanted to know why the 1st thread was closed. And close that thread, too, if IM can’t be arsed to put some content in his OP.
Or we could do this, because it makes the point of the OP, that it wouldn’t make any difference if the original thread was left open.
Repeats self.

Hijack of thread to discuss barely related, equally inflammatory example of allegedly pissy moderating which I find personally aggravating, combined with a threat to take my marbles and go home if not heeded.
A different approach to this would be to tell everyone to knock off the stupid pointless joke and either discuss the issue of why we close these stupid threads or go play elsewhere. Then you at least have the consistency that we don’t want these threads.
Or we could follow the suggestion of John Mace.
