Landing Gear from 9/11 wreckage found

Weird. 12 years after the disaster, they’ve found another piece of 9/11 wreckage - apparently some landing gear from one of the planes, wedged in a narrow space between two buildings near the WTO site.

Plane wreckage found in New York

And, oh, great, the little alley is right beside the Islamic Centre that caused so much controversy a few years ago.

Cue conspiracy theorists…

Sorry, with the bureaucracy so slow these days it took them a little while to plant this fake evidence. But it’s only 12 years, people probably won’t notice.

What’s weird is that there’s some evidence the gear was put there. There is a rope and pulley with or attached to the debris, which could be unrelated, snagged from somewhere as it fell in, or used to lower it there. Or perhaps it’s a failed attempt by someone to retrieve it. They don’t seem to think they can get it and any other debris out without going through the walls of one of the two buildings.

So now what is the conspirosphere saying - this was not really a suicide mission, they were trying to land on twin towers?

What the hell difference does it make now anyway.

The first news I saw of this was a (now changed) headline from the NY Post that said “9-11 landing gear found hidden at Ground Zero Mosque”.

They really deserve that thread in the Pit - and probably a few more…

They worship it. It’s the Kaaba of the new world.

It’s not rope, it’s BX cable that exists in the Boeing 767 landing gear.

The NY Times story said another piece of landing gear crashed through the roof of one of the buildings next to the alley. So there was a shower of debris, and this particular piece fell at just the right place and angle not to damage the adjacent buildings.

Also, it was pretty large, about 3 feet to a side. It’s not something that would have been overlooked, had someone actually looked there.

When the building that is now the community center was sold, it was widely reported that it had been by debris during the attacks. I guess it turns out that nobody had ever poked around to make sure all of that debris had been recovered.

I imagine there will be quite a bit of human remains found in that alley once they get to looking closer.

Missiles don’t have landing gear.

Really? Thanks as that had me thinking it must have landed on top and been lowered during demolition / reconstruction and subsequently forgotton. That clears up a lot for me and makes their decision to search for additional remains more rational.

It appeared in map view that this was quite a ways from Towers One and Two. I assume with the speed and elevation it’s perfectly acceptable to assume it could be found at this distance? Also, is the second of the two buildings it was found between a little taller? Seems probably it landed on the roof of one and skidded across until it hit the second and then fell between them? That would make finding a 17" wide piece in an 18" wide gap more plausible.

It’s now being reported that this fragment is a piece of the wing, not landing gear. A piece of landing gear did fall into the building and was recovered in 2002.

I see the media is maintaining their high standards for accuracy when reporting on something even minimally related to an (11 1/2 year old) act of terrorism…

Well, they were relying on the statements from the police:

It’s not like the media could go in and inspect it themselves; it’s cordoned off as a crime scene, so they have to rely on the information given to them by the authorities.

That’s why the media themselves refer to their work as “the first draft of history” - revision and correction is expected and required, as they find more facts.

9/11 plane debris is from wing, not landing gear

No, it was rope. From the New York Times, “But Mr. Browne [police spokesman] said that follow-up interviews with those who first responded to the site revealed that it was a police officer – a member of the Emergency Service Unit – who lashed a bit of rope found in the alley around the wreckage ‘in order to move it in such a way as to look for its serial number or other identifiers.’”
