I have a Dell Latitude D 620 laptop, running XP Pro. Last week I lost all audio from it. It happened right after I did a Webex presentation, although I was not using the laptop for audio during it. I have it connected to a Optiquest Q9 monitor via a docking station. The monitor’s speakers nor the disconnected laptop have any audio at all.
I have checked all the settings and they are all correct. It is not on mute.
My ignorant impression is that even if my laptop speaker was broken, it would still send a signal to the monitor and I’d be able to use that. Any ideas on diagnosing this, or is there something I might have missed in the settings?
This may not fit your case, but I had a similar problem with my Dell laptop. I resintalled all the drivers and nothing, however I found that when I connected earphones to the earphone jack I could get sound. After some jiggling I noticed that if I disconnected my earphones “just so”, the laptop speakers worked again. I’m guessing it’s something to do with the earphone jack getting stuck in the open position. Probably worth a test for you.
