Laptop issue: Screen suddenly turns solid color, must reboot to reset it

I’m having this problem that I can’t figure out. I have Toshiba laptop that hasn’t given me any problems in the past, but now twice today, the screen suddenly changed to a solid color (first time it was white, the second time aqua), and I couldn’t do anything about it. It seemed like the computer hadn’t crashed because if I pressed certain keys, it would make the sounds the software I was using at the time would make. This leads me to believe that it’s a monitor issue-- or possibly a virus. Again, it’s not the ‘blue screen of death’ because there’s no text and no clear indication of a crash. Has anyone heard of this problem? And how should I go about fixing it?

The fact that it works properly on reboot makes me suspect a corrupted driver. You might want to go to Toshiba’s website and download the most current version for your particular model. The update should overwrite any corrupt driver files. You may need to reboot of the change to take effect.
