My new LCD laptop (asus 6000 xp) has developed an odd colour problem. The most saturated blue has turned red and the most saturated black shows up as purple. A less saturated blue or black shows up normal. This results in some odd photos and text. Is it likely to be a driver or hardware problem and how can I tell ? (the graphics card is a GeforceGO 7300). I can return it under warranty but if I can fix it myself it would save a month or so without a computer.
I mentioned it in a thread here at the dope, and was told to check my cable plug on the monitor to make sure one of the pins wasn’t bent or broken.
I checked; fixed the pin; problem solved.
If it was a driver issue, the commencement of the problem would usually coincide with the installation of new drivers or possibly other software (unless you have automatic (and quiet) updates set up); if this just started happening one day but was fine the day before, I don’t think it’s likely to be drivers.
It could be something to do with colour profiles or driver settings - you could try digging around in the display properties dialog (particularly the Advanced) section, and looking for a ‘reset defaults’ button, but I think it sounds like a hardware problem really.
Try booting the computer in safe mode (this will stop the video driver from being loaded) and then you will know if it is a driver or hardware issue…
