My sister-in-law wants to buy a laptop for internet, ipod, and maybe a bit of word processing.
I was going to recommend her this one :http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.205-3557.aspx (she’s loads of Tesco vouchers to use so want to get from there) but realised that it has an integrated graphics card. I haven’t had an integrated graphics card for years and so don’t know the limitations (the most system intensive game she’ll play will likely be solitaire…). Will it be jerky watching tv shows on BBC iplayer?
I realise that she could get it for cheaper elsewhere and will tallk to her about that but does it look like it will be suitable for her purposes?
It is very rare to find a laptop that doesn’t have an integrated graphics card. If you’re desparate, Asus does one with dual graphics cards for over £2000! BBC iPlayer will work fine.
For her stated needs, this spec will be fine. And the price isn’t bad.
The Dell site lists Radeon HD 3650 as an option for the Studio 17. But I don’t think it’ll make a difference for streaming video. All the work is done by the CPU anyway, not the graphics chip.
I’m sure the Studio 17 is powerful enough for her needs. You do realize though, that this is a very large and heavy laptop? By today’s standards it’s more “transportable” than “portable.”
I realise that she’d get more with a desktop and that it’s a hefty laptop. She’ll just be using it at her house and doesn’t want a desktop as it’ll take up too much space.
