Las Vegas Ideas

Help Dopers!

I’ve been to Vegas alot, but always with a bunch of guys spending our time drinking and gambling. This time I’m meeting a girl there and need some ideas on restaurants and maybe a club to go to afterward.

Restaurant-wise I’m looking for something fairly nice, but not too expensive. Maybe around $100 for dinner for two. On the strip would be nice, but not essential. Any type of cuisine should do (for me anyway, all have to ask her if she has a preference).

Club-wise - same kind of requirements, but not too hip or crowded. I’d prefer something w/out too long a line/wait (eg Ghost Bar at the Palms is definitely out!). We are meeting Saturday so crowds will probably be an issue. Also - any ideas for shows if she prefers not to go clubbing.

Thanks in advance.

Do yourself a favour, take your “$100 for two” AND your chick.
Stick em both on red.

If your lucky you’ll walk away with a $200 Dinner, and $10 for a bottle of lube and a box of tissues.

Hi,

I think a fun place to go thats a bit off the beaten path would be Fado at Green Valley Ranch. There’s a $3 cover and the band starts around 10. It is crowded sometimes but if you get there early enough you can grab a table. If you are any sort of fun loving person you will be up dancing anyways :). The band is an pseudo-Irish band- they do some traditional Irish songs, some covers (Outkast, Bob Dylan, even a bizarre version of Eye of the Tiger), and some pretty good originals as well. They are a bit punk rock/fast/loud playing and the show is rated R for language and occasional crowd nudity  . I love it- I go at least 1-2 times a month, sometimes more. Good beer, good times (although I hear the food sucks so go somewhere else for that). I have a blast every time I go there- except on St. Paddy’s Day when I drank too much Guinness :frowning:

Ok…

Read your post again- it might be a little wild for a first date (if thats what it is) but at the same time you can test the uptight factor of the girl :)… its worked for me on a couple occasions (with guys of course…)

For restaurants I’d recommend Lawry’s for the best prime rib you may ever have. It is about a block off the strip (east) kind of behind the Flamingo (if memory serves). They are known for their prime rib, so if she’s a vegetarian that would be a problem. But certainly a nice, quiet, classy place to take her. I think it is in about your price range as well.

Can’t say anything about any clubs. But for a show (although, pricey), the “O” Cirque du Soliel show at the Bellagio is amazing. Just the stage (which dynamically changes from a regular solid floor to a deep diving pool and everything in between) is amazing. I thought it was incredible and really imaginative. Tickets are like $100, $150, and $200 (or $175) I think. So there is that to consider. But I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

However, if you have some daytime time to share (and a car), I’d recommend a nice drive out to Red Rocks. It is only about 20-30 minutes west of the strip (take Charleston west and you’ll run right into it). Beautiful mountains with this cool red stripe. A very nice diversion from the glitz of the strip.

Hope this helps

Me and my GF just came back from Vegas last week. We loved it. We stayed at “The Mirage” and loved it.

We went and saw Cirque du Soleil "Zoomanity " at “New York, New York”. I highly recomend that. It was $85 bones, but pretty frick’n cool. It’s very sensual.

The same night we went to “Onda” at the Mirage. We had a nice Italian dinner, it was a little pricey ($120 including tip).

Wicked deal, if you go to see the Sirens at TI, don’t stand out front with the chumps. Beside the “drink window” at the main entrance is a path to a VIP viewing deck for the show. It costs $5 a head, but it includes a free drink. And it’s all top shelf stuff. In our group of 4 we had two Crown Royal’s and 1 Gray Goose. And the guy was free pouring/!

Enjoy!

Here’s a daytime excursion you might consider: Flyaway Indoor Skydiving. Myself, my husband, and my two sisters went several years ago. It was a lot of fun. You put on a skydiving suit and go “skydiving” in an indoor tunnel. check it out!

If you’re in the mood for amazing Thai food, go to Lotus of Siam (it’s in Commercial Center, which is a cruddy-looking strip mall a taxi ride away from the Strip). The locale isn’t great, the decor is standard strip-mall restaurant…but then you start to notice things like the wall full of clippings of rave reviews from top publications, the Riedel glassware, the faaabulous food, and the great wine list.
