That is waaaaay more than I expected.
It’s more guaranteed incarceration time than you get for murder in Canada.
It’s been on Court Cam for a while now, the video clip. I love it when he’s taken down and one of the security guys gets some punches in on him.
He attacked a judge so they predictably made an example of him. Both because judges are human enough to be understandably hostile to the thought of being attacked, and because of how that endangers the system.
"It was not just retaliation or an attack on Judge Holthus,” Johnson said. “It was also an attack on the judiciary.”
Hey. I’m just starting reading the thread but I’m posting now to leave a link to the raw footage (with beeps for the naughty words) on YouTube so you don’t have to sit through another insipid local news piece complete with: a cold open; two anchors standing doing an on-set intro; they toss to a pointless live shot; we see a reporter LIVE!!!1, pointlessly saying bla-bla when all anybody wants is to see the video of the courtroom attack.
It’s actually even worse than the classic “three felonies and you’re done” laws. The punishments mentioned above by @running_coach are actually possible for just two felonies if accompanied by two other crimes. Which I guess could be misdemeanors.
See below from the same site @running_coach quoted.
If a habitual offender (having committed two crimes or more and one felony) is convicted of a second felony – regardless of what state the other crimes and felony were committed in, he will be punished with a category A felony.
…which is punished by one of the three choices above
[Bolding mine]
I dunno, man… steal some gum twice and mug someone once and go to prison forever?

If you mean the fellow who was next to her, that wasn’t security, that was her law clerk. Which makes it all the more impressive.
