Las Vegas' Newest, Most Expensive Private Construction In US History!

Here is a link .

"The most expensive privately funded construction project in U.S. History.

The first phase of MGM MIRAGE’s CityCenter Las Vegas, a gargantuan $7.4 billion, 68 acre project, is under construction on the Las Vegas Strip between Bellagio and Monte Carlo. It will eventually occupy the space behind and between Monte Carlo and New York New York as well. The Boardwalk Hotel was demolished along with a few local businesses to make room for this immense project. Harmon Road will meander through CityCenter.

CityCenter will be an urban environment with nicely hidden parking structures, parks and a complex of rooftop gardens. The project will be a mini-city with its own Fire Station, an on-site power plant and lots of pedestrian space. CityCenter has achieved LEED certification for the project as outlined by the U.S. Green Building Council."

For those of you coming to the Las Vegas Dopefest August 07, you will not believe the size and scope of the construction already underway. This is one hugeass project.

Holy carp! That’s certainly going to change the skyline of the Strip, isn’t it? So much for being able to see the Eiffel Tower from the freeway. To put the cost in perspective, the Alaska Pipeline only cost $7 billion to build. OK, it was in 1970s dollars, but still…

I’m going to vegas the end of July for my brother’s stag. I’ll have to take a look.

Wow, that’s impressive for size. Are they recycling all their water and using externally-insulated thermal mass to ctore the “coolth” from their AC units? Are they geenrating their own electrciity. so that they can be self-sufficient?

'Cause if they aren’t, and the southwest becomes drier while fuel prices rise, someone is going to lose a lot of money eventuially.
