My officemate and I were talking this afternoon about the '60s tv show Lassie (don’t know how we got to that topic but it was a topic right after Calif recall, energy problems, and opinions of Davis). Yes it has been a boring day, why do you ask? I just know that both of us had meetings early afternoon that sucked the life out of any motivation we had before .
So we were discussing what we remembered about this show. I stated that I don’t remember much just a bit of the theme song (like one note) and a few bits and pieces but no actually episode plots. W said that he remembered a bit more than that. Well W said that he saw Lassie on Nick a few years back (along with Flipper).
Here is what W said he learned from the Nick episodes. There were like 3 owners of Lassie. The 1st season s/he was owned by Tommy. 2nd season, Timmy came into the picture. Now this is where it sounds like it was a weird plot twist. It seems that Timmy was a run away and that the family kept him. But that family then had to move to the city so the family that bought the farm kept both Lassie and Timmy (the family being June Lockhart and somebody). Then Lassie jumps out of the vehicle and is then found by this guy who kept Lassie. In some kind of the odd coincidence this guy and the June Lockhard family meet up, but the family of June Lockhart had to move to Australia so they let this guy keep Lassie for the last couple of seasons.
So questions is: Is the above synopsis really how the plot went from season to season, if not could someone give the correct version?
I then joked that Timmy was treated like a dog or cat. He runs away and a family is able to just take him in. Did they even put up signs, call the pound, check the newspaper? Then when they, Timmy’s “owner”, moves he is just left. Did anybody object to this kind of treatment of a child? Did any of the viewers object to this plot stuff, cause if it happened today, I could see a real ruckus being raised.
deb – yes I did download the theme song for old times sake – 2world
