I was looking at my dogs (1 male 1 female) and how the anatomical differences are pretty obvious, even when they’re just walking around. Well, Lassie was played by male dogs, right? Did they need to do anything special (e.g. creative camera angles, surgical tape :eek: ) to hide it, or is it not very visible on long-haired dog breed?
Lassie was played by both male and female dogs. The males were considered more photogenic; the females were better at learning tricks.
I don’t think they did anything special to hide things, though.
Aren’t collies long haired? I don’t think anyone would even notice unless they were specifically looking for it. And who the heck would? >_>;
(fake edit) I think that the original Lassie died and was buried around where I used to live in Pennsylvania. Not way to be sure though-- my Dad was one of those parents who lied for not apparent reason to their children. He’s dead now, so all’s good.

Not to be critical, but I’ve noticed that you seem to use a lot of those little anime smileys; it’s sort of irritating and you seem to include them in every post you make. You might consider not doing that (heck, a not particularly small contingent of people around here even don’t like that we have the graphical ones.)
Our family pet when I was growing up was an “unaltered” male collie. Even though we kept him fairly well groomed, his private parts were usually well concealed by his coat.
It’s hard to imagine just how much hair a collie really has until you actually run your hands through its coat. Underneath that classic collie profile, the thing is almost as sleek as a greyhound.

Err… wow. Uhmm, I’m not sure what to say, actually. I certainly don’t include them in every post I make. I’ll take note of that when posting in future, 'cause I can understand what you’re saying since it annoys me to no end when people on the board use the :eek:, :D, :dubious:, :rolleyes: and 
emoticons. However, if you want the simple solution, just don’t read my posts, I guess. It’s really weird that you cared enough to bring this matter up, though.

Yeesh. I just mentioned it and I was hardly mean about it. Given the number of people who have expressed their irritation at the use of the smileys we have, it doesn’t seem like it’s a huge stretch to imagine that I’m not the only person liable to find it annoying.

I dearly wish I could find a cite for this, but I do seem to remember reading that, at least sometimes, they did in fact employ a sort of… puppy merkin… that covered the obvous bits with bit of fake fur. Collies are long haired enough that you could probably hide such a disguise easily, though as has been pointed out, that long hair often hides things well enough on its own.
The ironic thing is that, in collies in particular, you don’t need to see the “naughty bits” to tell a boy dog from a girl dog. Male collies have a magnificent mane of hair around the neck, similar to a lion’s, which is much less prominent in female collies. That mane’s a lot more noticeable than a penis, and it could probably have been concealed with a haircut, but they didn’t even try.
Pretty low threshold for designating something an insult, dude.

I just wanna defend Excalibre: I don’t see anything wrong with politely letting someone know when they find something a little annoying about their posting style. If the person being told cares, they can stop, and if they don’t, they can ignore it.

It is always funny to me when I see a shih tzu or a chow with most of its hair shaved off. Like a greyhound or a rat with a lion’s mane.
Any breeds that have long hair and keep a similar profile when the hair is shaved?
