I’m another one who generally finishes his serving if possible.
The “last bite” issue I wanted to raise was - I tend to eat my food in a manner such that the “best” bite (to the extent there is one) is last.
Would it be too much to ask that if my wife is interested in a taste, that she ask before I am down to my final favorite morsel?
I am notorious for leaving One Bite on my plate. I have no idea why I do it. The day after Thanksgiving, I was eating a plate of leftovers…a scoop of mashed potatoes, a scoop of stuffing, and a scoop of green beans. I handed my plate to my husband to put in the dishwasher for me, and he burst out laughing…there was exactly one bite of potatoes, one bite of stuffing, and one bite of green beans still on the plate. He ate them, and put the plate in the dishwasher. He said they were perfectly good bites, and he can’t figure out why I rejected them. I don’t know, either! I am willing to buy into kanicbird’s “unappetizing plate” theory. I hate hate hate dirty dishes and leftover food…they give me the willies.
For a lot of places, you can get around this by just ordering from the appetizers. Or, only ordering the entree and nothing else.
Of course, familiarity with the restaurant in question helps for that. But once you know the size of the various dishes, you can order pretty well based on how much you can actually eat.
