and, when I’m feeling like an indestructible flagellant monk…Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout from North Coast Brewing
kids so far have probably internalized that Drinking = Terrible Person. i’m not pushing anybody towards a bar, ever, but i think you owe it to them to counteract all the negatives that have built up around drinking.
they need to see that
a) someone can drink without becoming a drunk
b) it is possible to drink responsibly
c) you are not automatically Bad if you touch alcohol in any form
d) alcohol CAN be a take-it-or-leave it proposition. there’s no need to be overly strident or defensive, one way or another.
sorry. big highjack, my bad. but others mentioned it before i had the chance, and i though my viewpoint might help.
Not much of a beer person myself. I perfer rum. My favorite beer is Corona with lime. Don’t just stick the lime in the neck either, squeze the lime into the beer, and then drink.
Also I have heard of a beer called ‘Red Stripe’ supposedly in Jamaca, and not exported. Friend told me it is real good, but can’t get it in the States. Anyone heard of this, and is it any good? I know it is mentioned in ‘The Firm’ by John Grisham, but I thought it was just a made up brand for the book.
You can get it all over the UK.
It’s pretty damn tasty, especially if its on tap and chilled, I used to drink it at gigs a lot but its nice from cans too.
If you’re that interested I could send you over a case maybe. pm me if you’re up for it
Favourite beer, I’d say grolsch when I’m in the mood, foster’s export the rest of the time. red stripe’s a close third
I see it all over here. It comes in a short brown bottle with a white label and (who’d’a thought?) a red stripe. I didn’t care for it particularly, but it wasn’t bad. I’ll see some guys go though quite a few of 'em at the bar, so everyone’s MMV, I suppose.
A little Googling yields this picture, it’s the fifth from the left. I also saw some pictures of more traditional-looking longnecks, but never in person.
Dude, as much as I like to bash Texas, that Shiner Bock stuff is everything it’s cracked up to be. Just finally had some at the end of last month. It’s almost worth a trip to Texas.
As to the OP, right now I am enamoured of Chimay, Leffe, Duvel, et al. Also have some Old Speckled Hen in the fridge just in case the mood strikes. My Theakston’s Old Peculier is sadly gone. Used to drink a lot of Red Hook ESB but haven’t had any in a while. Picked up an intrigued Czech Pilsner called Rebel earlier this week, the jury’s still out on that one. And of course in Germany nothing but German pils or lagers will do. I love the stuff. Whatever is brewed locally, thank you very much. But it’s got to be draught. I don’t like it as much on this side of the pond because it’s just not as fresh and I can tell the difference.
So many fine beers. I love anchor steam and sierra nevada porter. Perfer porters to stouts.
Pilsner Urquel, Budweiser (the original) and other Czech beers are great.
Also mentioned above are Steinlager and Cascade from NZ and Oz, respectively.
Tsingtao is a decent albeit very light lager, and probably the best of the Chinese beers. Unfortunately, China only makes waterly lagers. Which is also why when I arrive on a flight to the west coast of America, you can usually find me swilling an anchor steam along with breakfast (but adjusted for time zones it’s the late evening).
