The reason I say, “If you gotta drink it…” is because some people do not drink beer all the time, but when they do they choose the same one with some repetition.
Personally, my favorite beer the La Fin Du Monde by Unibroue of Quebec. Easily available in the States, this brewery is magnificent. Other beer I will drink include: Stella Artois, and most good cream stout such as Buddington’s or Old Speckled Hen.
I prefer Sierra Nevada Pale Ale or Red Hook. They are not to thick and heavy. There are some good local breweries in town here that are very good as well. For the record I drink beer almost exclusively but not to intoxication.
My favorite brew is Speakesy Brewery’s Big Daddy IPA, right behind it is its Prohibition Ale. Right up there are Pyramid Hefeweisen and Gordon Biersch Pilsner.
I like Newcastle and Corona as imports. Killian’s is probably my favorite of the bers found in the macrobrew section. MGD is OK if you’re stuck with the huge brewerys.
If I’m drinking in a pub, I’ll usually have a Black and Tan which is Bass Pale Ale for the bottom half and Guinness on top. Alternatively, from a bottle I’ll take Fullers ESB.
Guinness Extra Stout. Not the draft; whether from a spigot, or a bottle or can with a widget, it’s a little watery for my taste. The extra stout (sold only in botles, AFAIK) hits the spot!
If I gotta drink it? There’s no if about it! I must–just as I can’t resist a thread about Texas, Geology, Chili, or… beer!
My favorite is always whatever I’ve made most recently. Right now, I’m drinking a homemade IPA (“Lower Ordovician” IPA). When the next batches are ready for consumption in a couple of weeks, my favorites will be another IPA (“Upper Ordovician” IPA) and a Robust Porter (no clever name yet).
For commerical beers:
Goose Island IPA. My favorite all-around beer.
Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. My favorite seasonal beer I can’t afford to purchase often enough.
Goose Island Oatmeal Stout and Sierra Nevada Porter (tie). My favorite beer when I’m in a maltier, rather than hoppier, mood. (I’m usually in a hoppier mood.)
Shiner Bock. When I can get it, and when I’m feeling homesick.
I’ll also proundly admit to still being a fan of Miller Lite, which is my favorite hot-day, working-in-the-sun, field beer, as well as the beer I drink when I’m in a bar, or running out of homebrew and want to stretch it out.
Other beers I love? Too many to list, but anything by Goose Island, anything by Sierra Nevada, anything by Deschutes, and Yuengling Lager (which I can’t find anywhere in Kentucky.) Also Red Hook ESB, IPA, and Blackhook Porter.
That should have been “float the Guinness on top.”
Harp Lager is also acceptable (in place of Bass), and I think it is more common on the East side of the pond. They didn’t have Bass at the gas station so that’s what I got this time.
