"Last Edited By" script

While I understand why the “Last Edited By” tag needs to be added when someone edits their post, I find the proximity and color of this tag to be too close to the post itself, to make for an unaesthetic appearance.

If there’s a merciful deity, can the formatting of this be changed so that is separates itself from the post better. Perhaps one more paragraph space and a gray color would be all that’s needed.

While fighting ignorance is noble… there’s nothing wrong with sexier, more legible posts.

Is this a whoosh?

Not really. Why would it be? I thought I was being rather straight forward.

There is a fairly versatile freeware program called Proxomitron which can do this for you, though it may take some trial and error:

This program reads the HTML code before your web browser receives it, and will tweak it to your liking. It’s pre-programmed to filter out ads, pop-ups and other stuff, but you can add your own customizations.

I managed to get a red horizontal line before the “Edited by…” line without much effort (though it could probably stand a little more tweaking):

Let me know if you go this route, I’ll send you the tweak I used.

Ahh! Alas, I am a Mac user. Not sure if it’s compatible. But I didn’t even think to check for such a thing. I’ll look to the amassed pile of Mac shareware to see if there’s anything similar. Thanks Padabe!

I know it’s kind of petty, but the designer inside my head is screaming every time I see that tag.

Why would you want to? One of the advantages to its current placement is that I can see, for the vast majority of posts, the fact that it is edited in the same glance that takes in the first look at the post itself.

Aesthetically, don’t see anything wrong with it, either.

So, it’s utile, it’s not displeasing to everyone; keep it as is, please.

Fair enough. It would still be completely visible, but I feel it does need some visual separation from the body of the post. It’s just neater and more legible that way.

To each their own, I guess.

As an example:

Ah, Mac, bummer.

Try here:

I’ve never used it, so I can’t vouch for it. It seems to be a cross-platform clone. And it looks like you’ll need to compile it yourself…

Failing that, you may find something by googling “mac web filtering proxy.”

If you use Firefox, you might be able to do it with a greasemonkey script, but my impression is that it’s not easy to write them.

Actually, I find that very unremarkable, and somewhat hard to read. So I would consider it much less utile, and less aesthetically pleasing.

Unremarkable is good. Exactly what I was going for! Get that thang outta the way.
