Last Exile (anime)

He was Delphine’s henchman and Luciola’s brother. He was a very minor character, I think appearing in a couple of episodes. I think he led the raid where the guild captured the Sylvana.

Were the guild ever depicted as being explicitly and inhumanly physically superior, though? I had always assumed that the merry ass-kickings they dispensed were a result of abnormally good nutrition (for the region) combined with very high-level physical conditioning and martial arts training that most surfacers couldn’t match.

And I guess that I always thought of Exile as more of a colony ship, one which would have had many more passengers than crew. After all, if you have even a few hundred people on board, I can’t see the captain being comfortable with anyone and everyone being able to control the ship. I had imagined a small complement of crew, some of whom presumably married each other while others married and bred into the passenger pool. My best guess about Alvis was that she was very close to pure crewblood, letting her run the ship.

It’s been a while since -I- watched this too, but I thought Alvis was only one of like 3 “keys” that allowed someone to control Exile. Alex Row goes bidding for another one in an auction at one point, and I feel like there was at least one other.

I thought you needed all three to do anything useful, but I could be TOTALLY offbase with this at this point.

Airk, iir(and understood)c, those “keys” were to unlock Alvis. They were phrases that triggered her somehow.

I think Luciola was supposed to be physically superior to the rest of the guild. It’s never explicitly stated, but my take is that he was bio-engineered to be a fighter and to act as Dio’s bodyguard. He threw the big mechanic (godwin?) around without breaking a sweat or even moving very much.

ETA: Yes, the keys were the mysteria, a set of questions and responses which would trigger Alvis’s strange powers and unlock exile.
