So, good news!
I’ve missed the past two episodes so I did not see the introduction of Gail and Erica. I did notice last night there is a cow - so there is at least one animal.
Brian
It’s funny, but the main character is just a bit too much of a compulsive liar.
I’m starting to hate him, which is bad. I found the first two episodes to be brilliant, but both Mrs. Mahaloth and I have found the show to be hugely disappointing since then.
Oddly enough, I will keep watching because I do think they can save it.
So is Phil (as opposed to new guy Phil) going to be called Tandy from now on? I found that pretty funny.
I wonder if Phil and Todd are going to team up against new guy Phil?
“You were my shade! And my pants!”.
Classic Tandy.
Like others, I had been growing increasingly irritated with how much of an asshole Phil is for the past few episodes, but New Phil has fully redeemed the show for me. I now understand the dynamic they’ve been setting up: As each new (better) person arrives, everyone realizes they settled prematurely and now regret it.
Melissa is within shouting range of Tandy in terms of asshole territory, with the ability to catch up when she tries to discard Todd the same way Tandy tried to discard Carol. At very least, she should be able to empathize with Tandy now that the shoe is on the other foot.
And Todd is the new (in spirit) Phil, which was a great touch.
It seems that the title is actually more in keeping with the line “I wouldn’t sleep with you if you were the Last Man on Earth” - because Tandy isn’t getting any anytime soon.
I actually don’t think she wants to get rid of Todd. She seems to genuinely like him, regardless of how loose she is or isn’t with the ‘L Word’.
Todd, however, is going to ruin it.
But, as I keep saying, how long can they keep it up? Are they going to bring in a guy hotter than new Phil; a woman hotter than the post Carol women?
Keeping things interesting will be a major task for the writers.
Also will the lighting guys show up on time? Will the sound guy manage to keep the boom out of frame?
There’s an endless amount of worry we can have about whether or not the production team manages to pull it off. Or we could just watch the show and find out.
Maybe the Harlem Globetrotters will swing through for an episode.
If Gilligan’s Island could last for years, then this show should be able to come up with plenty of material considering they have the whole world to explore. There can be random natural events that they have to deal with, resource shortages that make them improvise, etc. They could tire of the Tuscon heat and want to move someplace with better climate and soil. They should be able to take the show in new directions without having to continually add people.
Right, but then it becomes a different show.
I heard someone wonder if this is what happens when the last man on earth is an asshole? I’m not so sure that Phil/Tandy is as bad as some think. I’d like to see some flashbacks of his life pre-apocalypse. Was he always an asshole, or have years of loneliness and deprivation changed him? His main drive, all he seems to want and crave is one thing - sex.
And when he finally gets it:
I'm still laughing.Yet he continues to be desperate to bed other women, and he tries anything and everything … of course he lies and cheats.
Thing is, he’s not very good at lying, he gets caught so easily … makes me think it’s not his true nature. And he tells the truth when a lie would’ve been better … as with his middle name. Why not Michael instead of Tandy? And then the dumb lie about Jessica Tandy being his mother.
He’s not all that different from a lot of men today … the primary thing that drives them is the urge to procreate. Apes in the jungle. Sorry guys, but nature made you that way.
I missed the first few episodes, but am enjoying this show immensely, it makes me laugh out loud. The cast of comedians and actors are superb. I especially love Kristen Schaal’s uptight wackiness.
New Phil - finally, someone who knows how to do important things to improve their lot … bring in electricity and water, repair doors, etc.
Who wants to bet he’s gay?
I didn’t think of that. Him being gay would be the perfect twist at this point.
Phil is just such a complete ass I quit watching it. He’s just such a dumb ass I hate his guts. What a wretched character.
I think in the pilot they showed a pre-apoc birthday party for Phil at the bar and it was crowded with well-wishers.
I had hopes for this show,I really did — but I watched half of the first show. That was enough for me.
It’ll be around for years
I didn’t follow this thread last week so I never saw this comment but that’s what I was thinking this week. At least when all the girls were throwing themselves at him and he was hardly noticing.
