Last minute buys on Stub Hub

I got it in my head that maybe I should get out of the house tonight and watch the Phillies game.

So the game is sold out, but there are a few tickets on Stub Hub that are going for less than face. Not too bad

Typically do sellers start dumping tickets closer to game time? Can I get better deals at 5:00-ish or would it be a good idea to get a couple of tickets now?

Depends on the game.

I used Stubhub a lot last year for Vikings tickets. If it was a low interest game, I would buy them within the last half hour and save a lot. If it was a big rivalry, the price wouldn’t go down much.

I needed to buy quite a few at a time, so that makes a difference, too. If you were just one or two people, and you didn’t care too much where you sat, I’d wait until the very end.

I just bought last minute Nationals tickets to Strasburg’s Friday start against San Francisco. I looked at the seats that the stadium tool said it couldn’t locate on the map. Got two tickets for $60 each that were on the first base line row A. They were actually the row on the rail, in front of the ground crew and right at the finish line of the President’s race. I have been able to get that kind of quality for much less than they would be a week earlier a couple of times.

Cue South Park

I’ve learned something today. You shouldn’t screw around over a few bucks in seach of a better deal.

When StubHub uses electronic ticketing, they only give you until two hours prior to the event to buy tickets, then they shut it down.

So while I was debating whether I wanted to pay $14 to sit upstairs or $25 to get a little better seat, I lost my chance. And of course, the Reds pitcher had a perfect game going into the eighth against Roy Halladay so I would have liked to have been there.

I buy tickets all the time on stubhub for the Phillies, and rarely at more than face value. I’ll check a few times throughout the day. Problem is when someone is looking to dump their tickets they are on there for seconds before somebody snipes them.

As long as supply holds out there will be some that drop – and I’ve only seen tickets run out on stubhub on opening day 2009.

We’re probably going to use Stub Hub to pick up tickets for the Padres in September for the simple reason that the Padres ticketing system won’t let you specify which side of the stadium you want to sit on. I don’t like sitting on the first base side, but that’s all that the system will give you right now. I can save $10 by buying online, but Stub Hub has seats right where I want them right now.
