Last-minute vacation tour ideas?

I have vacation time scheduled the week of November 11. I don’t really care where I go. I’ll be traveling alone, so I’d prefer to be with some sort of tour group. I would have to start my vacation Sunday the 11th or Monday the 12th, because I have visitors staying with me earlier that weekend. Does anyone know where to find last-minute tours like this? There are plenty of websites, but it’s pretty overwhelming trying to find anything. Most websites just have packages on flight/hotel/car, which isn’t really what I need. I’m a 36-year-old man and am pretty open as to what type of tour I’d take.

I loathe tour groups…maybe it is just me, but I far prefer to travel on my own, roaming the area and finding cafes/bars/restaurants and other things to do, on my own time, at my own speed.

I suppose if you were going someplace really foreign and exotic - and were anxious about the language and culture and getting around, a tour might possibly be an option.

Are you talking about overseas?
Otherwise, I doubt you need a tour group to, say, come here to Las Vegas, or find your way around NYC or SF or Honolulu. Any good guide book or just a few Google searches should be all you would need for a domestic vacation.

Less than a week? I’d go to someplace like Costa Rica, not on a tour. It’s close to US, cheap flights, minimal jet lag, well set up for American-style eco tourism, plenty of cheap accommodation and transport, lots of (pricey) organized day-trips, and full of independent travellers.

Not sure what the weather is like in November wrt rain but the west coast would be drier.

I am open as to whether to stay in the US or to go overseas. A couple years ago I went to Paris on my own and had a great time, although meals got kind of lonely. It did help that I had a rudimentary knowledge of the French language, so I’m not sure how I’d enjoy a country with a completely unknown language on my own.
