I’ve finally decided to ask, on a multi page thread there is an icon to click which will take you to the last post. There is also a link which says “Last Page” which is handy because after a thread goes for more than six pages you can’t tell how many pages a particular thread is. However clicking the ‘Last Page’ will take you to the last post. It’s just a little annoying having to scroll back to the top of the page again when you expect to be taken to the top of the last page or can we change ‘last page’ to ‘last post’? Or actually make the link go to the last page instead of the last post? Just asking.
Good catch, GawnFishin’. This looks like a bug in the vB software. I just checked the link that “Last Page” points to, and it actually points incorrectly to lastpost instead.
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=127730&goto=lastpost
should actually be:
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=127730&goto=lastpage
The latter link takes you to the top of the last page.
Wait, I was wrong. “=lastpage” is not a valid parameter, it just takes you to the top of the first page :smack:
Here’s the correction:
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb...0&goto=lastpost
should actually be:
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=127730&page=7&pp=50
(This link will now take you to the top of the last page)
Note that once you’re on the first page of the thread, if you click on the Last Page link on the top right of the page it will correctly take you to the top of the last page. The “Last Page” link from the forum page should also technically point to the second link shown above.
Another option is to specify a page number much higher than the expected last page number, e.g.:
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=127730&page=100
where page=100 will also take you to the last page, which is actually page 7.
So, if you think it’s less effort than scrolling, you can just append &page=100 to any thread’s link to go to the top of the last page of that thread.
Or instead of scrolling up when you’re erroneously taken to the last post, you could just punch “Home” on your keyboard. That takes you to the top of any web page you might happen to be on. At least this is what happens in IE; with other browsers different results may be produced.
Aw crap, lemme show this to Jerry.
