From Cheers Harry Anderson (Harry the Hat) has passed. Not a regular cast member but a recurring character.
Isn’t that one of the only cast members to die? Coach obviously died during the show. I would not consider Harry Anderson any more of a cast member than Jay Thomas, who also died.
Pretty strong cast. I swear George Wendt just keeps going!
Sesame Street:
Of the original adult cast, Loretta Long and Bob McGrath are the only living ones left. I think?
All true, Harry the Hat only had 6 appearances but they were spread out over 11 seasons. It seems like a more prominent role to me but by sheer numbers it’s not.
Cheers has had good resiliency, unlike Babylon 5. It’s random, but the way it is.
Mickey Kuhn is the sole surviving credited cast member (Beau Wilkes) of “Gone with the Wind”, as well as a “Streetcar named Desire”. He left the business in 1956. Caren Marsh Doll and Patrick Curtis (Raquel Welch’s ex husband) were also in GWTW but not credited.
There has been speculation among fandom as to whether the former spa factory it was shot in was a former Indian burial ground. In your list of still among us is JMS, of course. Although he appeared before the camera only once – the tech who cuts the power as the station is about to be razed – he was of course, the main spark plug in the program’s existence.
This made me stop and think. I was sure Maria and Luis were still alive. And they are! But I suppose they technically aren’t original cast. Sonia Manzano and Emilio Delgado joined two seasons in.
I take your point, but feel Frank Oz should count.
John’s son Patrick Wayne is the last surviving member of the cast of The Conqueror. Legend has it that most of the rest of the cast and crew died of cancer brought on by radioactivity from a nuke test site near the shooting location.
Barney Miller is getting close. The only two surviving long-runners are Hal Linden and Max Gail. Barbara Barrie was a credited actor, but really was relegated to recurring status pretty quickly, and Gregory Sierra left after two seasons.
Stuart Margolin (Angel Martin) and Gretchen Corbett (Beth Davenport) are the only ones left from The Rockford Files, and even they were just recurring characters.
As for The Bob Newhart Show, Pat Finley, who played Bob’s sister/Howard’s girlfriend is still with us, but she was only a recurring character too.
Well…I mean…Bob Newhart is alive, too.
Does John Astin count?
Of course Bob Newhart is still alive. So is Peter Bonerz. Both of them were already mentioned upthread.
I believe Astin was mentioned above under the category of “Guest Villain.”
It hardly counts as his Mr. Spooner character was only on for a season, but Mike Berry is the last survivor of Are You Being Served?
But if you go by the standard of regulars who were on the show for all eight seasons, you only had three: Linden, Gail, and Ron Glass. (James Gregory appeared in all eight seasons but generally as a recurring guest star. He was in a total of sixty-six episodes, which is less than Jack Soo (102 eps), Ron Carey (121 eps), and Steve Landesberg (124 eps).)
Oliver Clark is also still alive. He played Mr. Herd, one of Bob’s patients.
Of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, only Clint Eastwood is still with us. Eli Wallach had a damn long run, though; passed away in 2014 at 98.
