"Last Resort" season thread

I’m caught up with the third ep now, and willing to stick with it for a bit. It’s good drama and acting. The mystery of why the US would nuke Pakistan and the sub carrying the Seals who evidently know way too much is sufficiently intriguing so far. I can’t help but like the arms trader woman.

The Chief of Boat kinda needs a bullet in the head. He’s an absolutely shitty excuse for a senior NCO, no matter which side is “right” in this situation.

The Serrat kingpin character needs a bullet too, although it’s interesting how Capt Chaplin keeps driving home the point about needing to appear both strong, and crazy enough. That’s essentially what Serrat is doing. Did we see a dead body?

Oh, forgot to ask one thing: where’d they get the old fashioned military jeeps? It’s not like subs carry them around just for cases like this. Did they belong to the listening station?

We didn’t, and that’s puzzling, but why would Serrat fake the execution?

It’s puzzling either way. He’s made an enemy of Chaplin and the crew, for no good reason.

He probably did have him killed, but you never know. The show hasn’t shied away from showing us people getting killed, and it seemed odd they dragged Red completely off screen and all we heard was the shot.

Plus, the female Lt. had a separate deal with Serrat, and who knows what that was? It was implied she gave him sex, but I’m thinking it was something else.

Deals within deals, intrigue within intrigue. I just hope they don’t over do it. Please.

I read a review of the movie Frequency a long time ago which said something like “if there were a set of cliches associated with movies in which father and son communicate forward and backward through time on a radio, this movie would embrace them all”.

Last Resort is the same. It has a totally novel premise, and just (at least in this most recent episode) has loaded it down with every obvious and silly hollywood-style moment it can think of. Which is a shame, because it gets a lot of things right and interesting.
I think I’ll give it maybe one more episode to go somewhere unexpected…

Even so, that movie did it rather well, IMO. One of my personal favorites. :stuck_out_tongue:

There is a whole lot I think we are all missing. I think the “conspiracy” point of the plot are going to become the big watyching point for the show. From the first ep it was mentioned that the current president is on his way out and an election is coming up, the Sec Def had just been removed or resigned. The hot Navy SEAL guy mentioned “It’s all out fault”(or something to that effect) meaning his team screwed up and there were no suitcase nukes. (or even worse, they were sent to plant suitcase nukes as a pretext for war)

I really liked the line the XO said to the sailor who took a banana in the 3rd ep “Put your shirt back on I dont see a pole nearby” (once again, or something to that effect) I am trully curious since it is now one year after DADT repeal, if there are gay or lesbian sailors or marines on the COLORADO. I would love to see a plot like that!

Okay, so? I guess I’m still watching. Anyone else?

“Mention my son’s name again and I will crush the jelly from your eyes.”

This was the best episode since the first. Loved the sub scenes with Grace in command. It’s good to know that Sam’s wife wasn’t fooled by that one dude. Having her team up with the other babe might finally make that story interesting.

The previews for the next episode look awful.

The ratings for this have been pretty dismal.

I was just thinking about this program the other night, while I was at work. I’m noticing that I NEVER see a promo for it on television any more, and I was wondering if it’s still on the air.

In the event that the dismal ratings result in an early cancellation, I wonder if the creators will just come out and tell everyone who the bad guys were, and what motivated them in the pilot episode.

Yeah, I don’t know much about how submarines do their thing, so it was exciting. Lots of promising character development too.

Hope so. One thing that worries me is when they talk about all the wonderful mysteries on the island that need protecting. Are we talking precious minerals or black smoke monsters? Could go either way.

It is quite hard to separate this show and Lost in my head when they keep visiting the same locations! Stupid Hawai’i, look more different!
