Last top-40 song mentioning "marriage" in a positive light

What was the last pop song to talk about marriage as a worthwhile goal between the singer and their SO? I’m thinking something like The Beach Boys’ “Wouldn’t It Be Nice?”. Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” doesn’t fit because–while it alludes to marriage–it’s not something both parties are striving for.

You’re talking about something more like Chapel of Love by the Dixie Cups, 1964, then?

“We’re going to the chapel, and we’re gonna get married,…”

Well, it’s not really a popular theme for pop music, is it?

The Carpenters had “We’ve Only Just Begun” as a number 1 in 1970.

“Marry You” by Bruno Mars would be the obvious one.

That’s from 2010, so it’s fairly current.

“Marry You” by Bruno Mars is pretty positive on the prospect, if a bit irreverent. His original didn’t get into the top 40 (it was early in his career) but the Glee cast cover hit 32.

Ninja’d :frowning:

Jason Derulo – Marry Me (hit #28 in the US)
Train – Marry Me (hit #34 in the US)

Now, granted, a close reading of the lyrics could introduce some questions about how positive the song is about marriage.

In my arbitrary rules it doesn’t fit because the girl he’s singing to is apparently saying no (or she’s too drunk to answer). Bruno also sings that if they decide to break up the next day it’s ok with him, the implication being that he just wants to sleep with her.

Here’s the lyrics to the Jason Derulo hit:

Seems positive to me.

“Rude,” by Magic!, was a big hit in 2013/2014.

Richard Parker, posting the entirety of a song’s lyrics is inconsistent with our policies on copyright. I deleted that from your post.

Well, you do have both "Marry Me,"s which seem unequivocally positive.

“Let’s Get Married” by Jagged Edge pops to mind immediately, but that was 1999.

Good call. Apologies for the oversight.

Hotel Yorba by The White Stripes comes to mind.

Oh, wait - dunno that is specifically a Top 40 tune. ETA: Okay, it charted in the UK :).

From 2013, Grow Old With Me by Tom Odell didn’t crack the U.S. Top 40 but it is a top-40 type song. And it hit #3 in Belgium.

What about “Love Story” by Taylor Swift? (2008, hit #4 on the Hot 100 in the US.)

I think the whole “Marry Me” thing isn’t taking into account Maeby Funke’s non-singing contribution, here.

No fucking umlaut key!!!

This is Us by Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris made, according to the Google, #17.

The song “Cheerleader” by Omi hit #1 in a bunch of countries in 2015 and has the line “Mama loves you too, she thinks I made the right selection, now all that’s left to do is just for me to pop the question.”
