Last visit, This is ridiculous.

When I first logged on tonight, I was able to look at New Posts using that tab, but when I clicked on the second page, about ten minutes later, I got the divining line saying that the following page contained unread posts. I don’t know the exact words, and will look it up if it is that important, but you know what I mean.

So, I don’t surf on Sunday nights generally, and can’t surf at work, so there should have been a lot of new post, but less than 50, REALLY?

So, I responded to a post tonight, and guess what? In the ten minutes that I took me to compose my post, I had been logged out and in again or something, because I looked on the last visited area on the page, and looks like it was about the time I was posting.

So, what is up?

I’ve had that happen, too. The only pattern I’ve seen is it’s the first visit of the day for me.( I’m home all day so I tend to visit 3-4 times during the day)

I have different computers and laptops I use when I am on the 'dope, depending on where I am and what I am doing. Most of them are fine in regards to signing me out involuntarily-I’ve abandoned the comp for quite a while. My main server acts like you’ve described, so I have concluded that it is something to do with my comps and their different settings, instead of the SDMB itself.

But, if you try new posts again after it logs you out immediately, it will (mine at least) show the 647 threads or whatever.

Of course, as attested to my previous paragraph, I am completely retarded when it comes to technology, so ignore everything I just said, because it’s probably wrong.

I thought it would, and I even hit backspace hoping they would come back, but no such luck.
(Sorry your questions got killed)

What are y’all talking about?

After you’ve been on the site for a little while, the system resets your “last visited” time. So if you’ve done a “new posts” search and looked at some threads for a while before going back and clicking on the next page of your “new posts” search, you may be informed that the rest of your thread results have no new posts since your “last visited” time was reset but nonetheless had new posts when you made the search.

A simple solution to this problem would be for the board administrators to enable the option to view ‘Today’s Posts’, which is different to ‘New Posts’.
