Late October 2012 Botticelli

IQ: Did Raymond Burr play you in a series of TV shows and movies?

Not Perry Mason.

Well, I’m stuck. I still can’t think of the name of the sheriff in ‘Smokey and the Bandit’, only that he was played by Jackie Gleason. There was also the ‘Walking Tall’ series of films, but that character was Buford something or other - no ‘P’. I was hoping that Agent Coulson might have appeared in something filmed pre-1980, but that was a shot in the dark.

I’d happily pass my remaining DQ on to anyone who can use it. I’m beat, fair and square.

Me too.

Same here. I’ve got a couple of DQs outstanding–they’re available to anyone who wants them.

Actually, that was a P. But that’s not who I’m thinking of.

I’ll give you until Mon. noon EDST, and then announce the answer if there are no more guesses.

Buford T. Pusser? I can’t be making that up, can I? Anyway, that’s a ‘P’ for a last name.

What the fuck, I’ll give it a shot…

DQ: Is your first name Peter (or one of its derivatives like ‘Pete’…)?

Yes, that’s the Walking Tall guy, but that’s not who I’m thinking of.

P.

  1. Not real
  2. Male
  3. Living
  4. American
  5. Not known for his contributions to the Arts as usually defined in the game
  6. First appeared in a film or cartoon
  7. Not a military or political figure
  8. First name begins with P
  9. Appeared in a live action feature
  10. Born before 1950
  11. Appeared in more than one film
  12. Not a scientist or inventor
  13. Crime fighter
  14. Not a secret identity
  15. Not a private investigator/private detective
  16. A member of a municipal, state or federal law enforcement agency
  17. Film released before 1980
  18. Not a title character in any of his films
  19. First name is not Peter or one of its derivatives

Is it Monday yet?

Is there a Monday where Eastern Daylight Time and Eastern Standard Time combine in Ohio?

Hoping we can get the November thread started before it’s December!

Le Ministre had an additional guess, so I didn’t end this round on Monday. But now I will.

I was thinking of “Popeye” Doyle, antihero of the two French Connection movies, and the role that put Gene Hackman on the Hollywood map: Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle - Wikipedia

Thanks for playing! Here’s the new round: Botticelli - Late Nov. 2012 round - Thread Games - Straight Dope Message Board

Well played, sir!! I remember that iconic image of the drug dealer being shot in the back while running up the steps, yet I had no inkling that was who you were after. In other words, a perfect Botticelli loss for me… I must find what solace I may in the fact that I actually managed to get you on two poets, Strider.
Onward!!

Nice one, EH!

Thanks. I’d just seen The French Connection for the first time a few weeks ago. It wasn’t his given name, but everyone called him “Popeye.” I don’t think his given name was even used in the movies.
