thx
Were they talking about a local personality?
If so, was he/she a patron of that bar?
Government official?
Business owner?
Somebody who was the latest headline/viral video?
The neighborhood eccentric? (chicken lady, paranoid crackpot, etc)
thx.
I will call it and tell the story once we determine the relationship between this local personality and the laughers / confused / unhappy.
Was October 15 the date on which said person would enter government employ?
Was it the date when they would leave government employ?
Was October 15 officially set by the government as the date for anything significant?
thx.
Did the public usually have to deal with this government employee?
Did the bartenders?
Was “October 15th” a common response he gave to anybody asking?
Was he involved in the bar’s business (aside from being a patron) or reason for existence?
thx
Mail carrier?

Was he a tax collector?
Inspector?
Somebody you have to deal with to get a license, permit, or pay fines?
Was Oct. 15th a due date?
All NO.
As a nudge this is the sort of government employee you might talk about with a group of old friends. Someone you could expect your old friends to know about.
Was the government employee a former teacher of theirs? Or another school employee?
Would it be helpful to know more about why one person didn’t like the joke?
If yes, does it have anything to do with his profession?
Family circumstances?
Religion or politics?
Personal experiences?
Mayor?
Revenoor?
Dog catcher?
Truant officer?
Garbage collector?
Utility checker?
Cop? Judge? DA? Warden? Hoof inspector?
It is in fact a former teacher, the group was of old school friends and the ones who laughed remembered the teacher fondly, the ones who were confused didn’t have that teacher, and the unhappy one wasn’t fond of the teacher at all. I think it’s time to put this one to rest.
The backstory:
October 15th, 1985 was the day I learned about the geometry concepts of Complementary and Supplementary angles. I remember this date because my teacher Joe Sapko was in the habit of stopping the class and making a giant production whenever anyone in the class made a mistake related in any way to these concepts, which was often.
He’d rush to the front of the class, make a right angle with his arms, and attempt a 180 degree angle with his legs, while reminding us all “October 15th! We learned about Supplementary and Complementary angles all the way back on October 15th, and you still don’t know it yet!”
He did this for all his classes over his thirty or so teaching years, different dates for different people, but anyone who was in his class remembers the day they learned that lesson. When he passed away a few years ago, my high school alumni Facebook group was awash in different dates he tortured his classes with, remembered mostly with fondness, but definitely not universal.
I thought of teachers as working for their school district, not the government, but I guess that’s where they get their funding.
Time for a new one? No Googling allowed.
Oswald’s untimely death was always intended to be broadcast. But no one anticipated that it would become the most frequently broadcast event of its type.
What happened?
Without checking the details as per instructions:
Lee Harvey Oswald was going to be executed, and that was going to be broadcast. His shooting by Jack Ruby is the most popular broadcast of something?
