Lateral Thinking Puzzles. Let's do it again!

Okay, a hint.

One of the unusual things that happened was that there were two interviews. One (presumably) went pretty much as planned and the other very much did not.

Did Justin get mistaken for someone who already worked there?

No, but you’re getting warmer

Did Justin pretend to be someone who worked there?

Has a sitcom based a story arc on the situation?

No

Yes

Did the interviewer think Justin was someone else?

Did Justin think the interview was for a different job than it really was?

Did this involve the interviewer asking questions pertinent to the job being interviewed for, but Justin answered the questions relevant to the job he thought he was interviewing for?

No

Was the sitcom on broadcast TV?
Was the sitcom on a cable channel?
Was the sitcom on a subscription venue (ie, Netfilx, Amazon Prime, etc.)?
Was it a 1/2 hr. show?

Yes

Is is The Office?

Not The Office. It’s one I had to look up and have never seen. Not that that’s super helpful unless you know my media consumption habits, but you can rule out the super popular ones like Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother and Parks & Recreation.

Is it an American show?

It’s not an American show

The IT Crowd?

That’s the one!

Wow, amazingly, I have seen IT crowd a few times and I still have no idea what the actual answer to this puzzle is…

I’ll guess the following:

He showed up to interview for one thing, but then found himself in an interview for something entirely different. He bluffed his way through and got a management-type job that he was not qualified for?

No

I believe you now have all the information needed to solve. Based on information given you can guess what happened. Even if you’ve never heard of the case before.

Maybe somebody would like to summarize what you know. That usually helps.
