So there’s a flaw in the layout of the house. It is causing the pets in the house to make kitchen access inconvenient to humans. The basement has something to do with it.

I think we can call this one solved, at this point. The doorway between the kitchen and the dining room, which is the most trafficked spot in the entire house, is directly above the furnace. As a result, there’s a warm spot on the floor there, which means that every cat and dog in the house likes to lay there, right in the doorway.

Oh neat. I got it!
